
Authorities in west Texas reported on Monday that a couple from Tennessee who was bringing$ 3 million worth of methamphetamine was killed in a shootout with police following a risky tractor-trailer fight.
Edward and Elizabeth Stevenson, of Cookeville, Tenn., were driving the vehicle on Texas State Highway 70 in Donley County when laws police tried to pull them over, Amarillo CBS affiliate KFDA reported.
However, the few kept driving, leading government on an unusual fight as they crossed Interstate 40.
As the Stevensons ‘ vehicle- trailer , exited Highway 70 to provide the interstate, authorities used a spike ribbon to activate the vehicle, according to KFDA.
Cops said the Stevensons next hopped up and opened fire on officers, KFDA reported. Officials killed them in the battle.
Authorities had been , investigating the Stevensons , for some time, the Putnam County, Tenn. coroner’s office said in a statement. Officials conducted a number of covert medicine payments on the pair and raided their apartment on May 9.
At the time, The Stevensons were away. Officers said they found suspected cocaine, suspected morphine,  , several handguns, weapons and system armor , in the home about 70 miles west of Nashville.
Facts at the scene showed the couple was  , in Mexico to make a deal with a medicine cartel , and would be returning through Texas with the illegal, according to the Putnam County sheriff’s office.
Researchers in Texas made contact with the Stevensons on Friday, causing the beautiful highway chase. According to Putnam County authorities, the Stevensons were planning” suicide by cop” if they could n’t get away.
Police said they found , 64 weight of cocaine , in the vehicle.
” They , did n’t want to get caught by law enforcement”, Putnam County Sheriff Eddie Farris told Nashville ABC affiliate WKRN. ” But more perhaps were scared of the gang than being caught, you know, 29 tons, and their connection with one of the Hispanic organizations on a regular basis”.
