Individuals at Laredo detention center pleasant fresh arrivals with stabbing instrument, kicks, punches, feds allege
A federal grand jury on Tuesday charged Ruben Salazar, Jose Regalado Solis, Javier Contreras, Ronaldo Otoniel Pena and Jesus Guadalupe Ortega with a count each of crime, aiding and abetting, assault with an impromptu punching apply and assault with a dangerous weapon.
Last August, the five reportedly punched, kicked, and stabbed eight self-professed Paisas crew members to the Rio Grande Detention Center. A criminal complaint filed in U. S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas state four of the victims were taken to a doctor motionless, with stab wounds, and heart abrasions. The various four experienced cuts and bruises.
The service is managed by a private company that houses U.S. Marshals Service inmates.
The complaint claims that a corrections officer “almost quickly” shut the door behind nine men as they entered the facility on August 19 and entered the H1 block.
When the party confronted the group and inquired about the gang to which one Ortega afterwards came up, Ortega responded. Eight reportedly made false claims about belonging to the Paisas Mexican prison group, while the seventh man claimed to belong to a different gang.
The seventh person is alleged to have been ordered by Ortega to remain where he was and move the eight Paisas to the back of the building near the rain. Many prisoners scurried to put on their shoes and walked barefoot toward the newcomers, displaying tattoos. Some of the Paisas were allegedly stomped on after falling to the floor following an allegedly brutal assault using an impromptu stabbing tool and fists and kicks.
Court records do n’t state whether the alleged attackers were members of a rival gang.
A May 20 reading was called by a U.S. Magistrate judge in Laredo, and the accused will be arraigned on May 23. The offenses carry fines and up to$ 250, 000 in fines as well as up to 10 years in prison.
