Former Gov. Larry Hogan ( R- MD) may be facing off against Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks in Maryland’s future Senate general election as both individuals vie for retiring Sen. Ben Cardin’s ( D- MD) chair.
Hogan soared to victory on Tuesday evening, receiving 127, 129 votes, or 61.8 percent of the vote, while former Maryland House Delegate Robin Ficker received 63, 871 votes, or 30.2 percent of the vote, according to the Associated Press ( AP ).
Different individuals such as Chris Chaffee received 7, 140 seats, 3.3 percent of the ballot, and Lorie Friend, a caregiver, received 4, 336 seats — two percent of the vote.
On the Democrat area, Alsobrooks received 219, 842 seats, or 53.6 percent of the ballot, while inc- founder of Total Wine &, More and Rep. David Trone ( D- MD) received 173, 649 seats, or 42.3 percentage.
Another Democratic candidates, including Michael Cobb and Joseph Perez, each received 0.8 % of the voting.

In response to the results, Steve Daines the chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee ( NRSC ) issued a statement slamming Alsobrooks for having “underfunded law enforcement” in Prince George’s County.
” The distinction in this competition could not be clearer. Angela Alsobrooks underfunded law enforcement, according to Daines, while violence is rising in her county. Governor Hogan” spanned the hall for eight years and delivered outcomes for Maryland.” Maryland residents are confident in Governor Hogan’s ability to keep their neighborhoods healthy and obtain benefits in Washington.
Alsobrooks was one of the Maryland lawmakers in the year 2020 who requested that governor Hogan utilize police reform laws. Alsobrooks and the state committee voted to purchase body cameras for state police officers and pledged to use the funds to pay for the construction of a mental health and addiction service.
To date, there have been 628 assault- related incidents in 2024 in Prince George’s County, according to data from the Prince George’s County Police Department, an 18 percent increase from the 532 assault- related incidents in 2023.
In addition to the county’s 494 domestic violence-related incidents so far in 2024, a 23 percent increase over the county’s 403. incidents reported in 2023 were 494.
