Kiev: On Thursday, Ukraine claimed its troops were fighting Russian troops in the Kharkiv region’s north districts, but it claimed the invaders had been unable to penetrate further into the border area.
The capture of Vovchansk, 5 km ( 3 miles ) from the border, would be Russia’s most significant gain since it launched an incursion into the region last Friday, opening a new front in its invasion and forcing Kyiv to rush in reinforcements.
The Ukrainian General Staff stated in a statement that” the enemy’s strategies to reach deeper into the village of Vovchansk and establish hold there were thwarted.”
It claimed that its defense activities had forced Russian forces to slow down their advance into the northwest of Kharkiv region, describing the situation in Vovchansk as being under control.
According to military spokesman Nazar Voloshyn, Russian soldiers were tasked with preventing Russian forces from gaining foothold in the area’s north.
In televised opinions, Voloshyn wrote that “our units… detect individual army units, the location of ordnance deployments, and inflict damage to stop the enemy from accumulating forces and products in the northwestern part of the town of Vovchansk.”
