The artist is suing Instacart and the deliveryman who she claims shot her dog Oliver at her North Carolina apartment in late March, and Angela Harmon and her daughters are still grieving.
The” Law &, Order” and” Rizzoli &, Isles” alum, who filed a civil lawsuit over the March 30 incident in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, believes the app is “beyond responsible for all this”.
Harmon said on” Good Morning America” on Wednesday,” It’s so unbelievable to think that somebody just fired a gun in your front driveway.” ” And you do n’t ever forget that sound”.
” I’ve played law enforcement for 30 years. It’s just so diverse”, she added. ” People need to know that, you know, who they’re talking to on Instacart is never always who’s going to show up at your home”.
Harmon is suing Reid and Instacart’s family business, Maplebear Inc., for alleged trespass, neglect, careless supervision/hiring, invasion of privacy, careless deception and the bringing of home. She is seeking more than$ 25, 000 in damage.
In her complaint, the actor claimed that the deliveryman, Christopher Anthoney Reid, was a senior person named Merle in the Instacart game but was not from Charlotte, North Carolina, and that he had left his car at her house to deliver her groceries before shooting the puppy. Prior to the distribution and shooting, Harmony claimed she “had no thought that she had been communicating with Defendant Reid,” believing him to be the visitor named Merle, according to the problem, which was made available by The Times on Wednesday.
Harmon’s complaint alleges that Reid, whose father’s name is Merle, was impersonating Merle on the Instacart apps and described him as a” high and threatening younger man. She claimed that Reid had plenty of opportunity to leave the house uninjured and that he had not been seriously injured or threatened by the German shepherd-beagle mix. She further asserts that she disapproved of Reid’s requests to access the house, deliver foods, or access her private information in any way.
Chronicling the tragedy in her complaint, many like , she did on cultural media , after the killing occurred, Harmon alleges she heard what sounded like a bullet after Reid arrived. While she was inside feeding her monkeys, her children were in the garden, the match said.
” Terrified for her children’s safety, Ms. Harmon immediately ran downstairs to determine]the ] source of what she thought was a gun shot,” the complaint said”. As Ms. Harmon walked outside, she saw]her children ] in distress. Defendant Reid was placing a weapon in his trousers bag as soon as she saw it, according to Ms. Harmon. Looking to the side, she saw that her favorite puppy, Oliver, was shot.”
Reid is accused of breaking local ordinances by releasing his weapon inside city limits and claiming that he had no lawful right to access Harmon’s home.
After Oliver supposedly attacked him, Reid told Charlotte-Mecklenburg police that he had acted in self-defense, and that he fired one bullet that struck the dog, who eventually passed away. In a 911 call reviewed by , ABC News,  , Reid told the controller that the dog was trying to bite him. No criminal charges were brought against the incident, according to the police department’s spokesperson, and no more parties were being sought.
” We’re all in treatment for PTSD. There is no cause for anyone to go through this, nothing,” the artist told , People , this year. After the killing, Harmony claimed that her sons were unable to get out of bed for a year.
” All only stopped. It’s like yet your mind stops,” she said”. And I just did a mad job of cleaning the floors in my entire house. I installed a fresh alarm system. My doctor said,’ When you go through stress at your home, you get rid of all the things that are unwanted,’ and that’s precisely what I’ve been doing because I’m trying to make my house feel safe again because it does n’t best now.”
Harmon told People that she feels neglected, uncomfortable and” like people and their dogs do n’t think anything.”
” I’m also bawling and crying. I may think myself shaking. It’s difficult — unfathomable — but we ca n’t just sit back and do nothing. We the n’t simply sit by and get our return from Instacart and claim,’ OK, thank you.’ This is like a common service news,” she said”. I mean, people need to know that this is what was happen.”
Harmon alleges that Reid delivered meals to one of her neighbors hours afterwards despite the suspension, despite the fact that Instacart said it” as soon suspended”” the visitor account associated with the event from the system.”
Following this upsetting incident, an Instacart spokesperson said on Wednesday in a statement to The Times that” Our hearts continue to be with Ms. Harmon and her family.” We have no tolerance for violence of any kind, and the shopper account has been permanently removed from our platform, despite the fact that we ca n’t comment on pending litigation.
The San Francisco-based company uses third-party background checks and makes arrangements to verify customers ‘ identities, including requiring them to provide current driver’s licenses before using the platform. Additionally, Instagramcart said its policy explicitly forbids any acts of violence or aggression, including carrying a weapon, as well as any forms of fraud, including transferring shopping and delivery responsibilities to someone who does n’t have a valid and active shopper account.
” We take any report of violence very seriously, and will immediately suspend any account that is reported for violence,” Instacart said.
Oliver was identified as having bitten or physically assaulting someone, according to the actor.
Harmon claimed that her 43-pound pet was shot in the shoulder and that the impact severably damaged all of his ribs. His lung, his stomach, and his left front leg were where the bullet exited. He was taken to an emergency vet, where he later died.
