Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY ) argued on Thursday’s MSNBC” All In” that the recordings from Special Counsel Robert Hur’s investigation, which President Joe Biden claimed executive privilege over, contain no fresh information because the transcripts have been made, so Attorney General Merrick Garland should n’t be held in contempt for turning the tapes over.
According to Goldman, the Republicans are” trying to hold Merrick Garland in hatred because he cooperated with their summons.” That’s right, he gave the text of the meeting with President Biden, but that’s not enough, they need the audiotape. And I do n’t know if it’s because they do n’t know how to read, but there’s really no other legitimate reason why they would need the audiotapes”.
There has never been a Department of Justice, and definitely not an administrative unit firm that has ever been held in contempt for cooperating as much as this Department of Justice has done, he added. And it is — they ca n’t, I assure you, give a justification for why they need the audiotape of an interview when they have the text of that interview and thus have all the relevant details.
