On Thursday, Texas ‘ government, Greg Abbott, a former U.S. Army lieutenant who was convicted of the fatal shooting of a Black Lives Matter activist in 2020, issued a full pardon and restored all right to him.
According to Abbott, the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles “recommended a Full Pardon and Restoration of Full Civil Rights of Citizenship” after conducting an in-depth analysis of U.S. Army Sergeant Daniel Perry’s personal story and the circumstances surrounding the July 2020 event.
Abbott explained that the committee had reviewed the entire analytical report on Perry, data from the Travis County District Attorney, and a review of the evidence presented at Perry’s test.
One of the strongest” Stand Your Ground” rules of self-defense, which cannot be overturned by a judge or a liberal district attorney, added Abbott. ” I thank the Board for its thorough analysis, and I approve their pardon advice”.
According to Fox News, Perry was late convicted of murder for the 2020 dangerous killing of 28- yr- old Garrett Foster, a Black Lives Matter protester, in Austin, Texas. Prior to the president’s pardon, the previous Army lieutenant had been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Following Thursday’s pardon, Douglas K. O’Connell, Perry’s counsel, said the original Army lieutenant was” thrilled and elated to be free” and was “optimistic for his potential”. O’Connell added,” He wishes that this horrible event never happened and hopes he never had to protect himself against Mr. Foster’s unlawful steps”.
The Post Millennial reported that Perry fatally shot Foster on July 25, 2020 when he ran into a group of Black Lives Matter activists in Austin while driving for Airbnb. He was officially armed with an AK-47 weapons.
” I made a wrong move, a man pointed a freaking weapon at me and I panicked. I do n’t know what to do. I’m really an Uber driver”, Perry told a 911 operator at the time. ” I made a wrong move, I’ve never had to take one earlier. I left the area after they started shooting up at me.
Perry fatally struck Foster after firing five bullets from his car, The Post Millennial reported. Another Black Lives Matter activist apparently fired three shots at Perry’s car while Foster did not use his weapons. After the event, law enforcement detained both Perry and the other Black Lives Matter activist.
The original Army soldier’s defense team claimed that Foster had raised his weapon against Perry and that Perry had no choice but to shoot in self-defense after prosecutors argued that Perry had had refrained from firing his weapon and just been driven away from the protest.
