In Houston, at least four people were killed by the extreme conditions that slammed south Texas on Thursday, according to Mayor John Whitmire in a press conference.
Two people were killed by fallen trees, another was killed by a broken crane, and the cause of the third death is questionable, Whitmire said only before 10: 00 p. m. on Thursday, according to WFAA.
The governor told non-essential workers to remain home on Friday, calling down “downtown is a chaos” after the town experienced winds at speeds exceeding 100 mph.
” Stay at home evening, do not go to job tomorrow unless you’re an important employee. Be house, take care of your children”, Whitmire said. ” Our first firefighters are working around the clock,” they say.
Numerous injury and traffic issues have resulted from damaged power lines and trees, and there are no traffic lights in the entire city.
The breezes were similar to hurricanes, according to KHOU 11 Chief Meteorologist David Paul.  ,
” If you lived through the base of these breezes, you went through the equivalent of a Cat 1, if hardly a Cat 2 hurricane”, he said during a wind review.

Almost 1 million customers were left without power, according to WFAA, and the eastern edge of city’s water system was disconnected from the power grid and has been running off of producers.
Due to the disaster, the Houston Independent School District canceled lessons on Friday.  ,
Whitmire added that the area is recovering and that local authorities are providing shelter to those in need.  ,
Officers would be out monitoring throughout the day, according to acting Houston Police Chief Larry Satterwhite.  ,
Samuel Pea, the captain of Houston’s fire department, noted that his organization has received numerous calls about oil leaks inside homes. He specifically warned about gas leaks.  ,
” He said if you smell gas inside your home, you need to leave quickly and contact 911 from outside”, WFAA reported.
