At Friday’s White House press presentation, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby provided an update on administrative details and the management announced Friday that the pier, which was eventually finished and was intended to funnel humanitarian aid into Gaza, had been completed.
President Joe Biden has vowed that the United States wo n’t deploy troops in Gaza, and Kirby emphasized to reporters that a” small number of U.S. service members” will participate in “force protection” and assist with loading and unloading cargo on the pier, which is technically not located in Gaza.
” There are no U. S. service people in Gaza. There is a little U. S. military aspect on the jetty itself”, he stated. ” They’re it really to do form of two issues. One goal is to provide a small amount of protection for it as well as to support the transportation.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin made the suggestion earlier this spring that American troops guarding the pier do fire again at attackers if they were first to attack.
Asked about Austin’s comments on Friday, Kirby responded that was” 100 %” still the plan.
The United Nations is facilitating the supply of help coming into Gaza through the temporary wharf, some 300 boxes of which were distributed on Friday in its first day of activity, according to the White House.

” This is a charitable work, and opposed to what we’ve been seeing out there in the knowledge area, especially in the region, it is designed purely only for the delivery of humanitarian help”, Kirby told reporters. ” There’s no other objective for this than charitable support”.
