Senator John Fetterman ( D- PA ) said Sunday on CNN’s” State of the Union” that President Joe Biden was trying to have “both sides” on the , Israel– Hamas war.
Anchor Jake Tapper said,” You’ve become famous or infamous depending on your point of view for your brave aid of Israel since the October 7 attacks, especially, but before then as well, Israel recovered the body of yet another hostage yesterday. That’s for prisoner body recovered this year. Despite President Biden’s warning that doing so would mix a dark line, the United States is now assessing whether Israel has the resources to build a full-scale ground operation in Rafah, in southern Gaza. You’ve stated that you follow what Israel considers to be ideal. But do you think Joe Biden is bad, for I’m trying to stop a significant Rafah war”?
Fetterman said,” Yeah. It would be shocking if it were to be known for supporting Israel, in my opinion. And I’ve always been extremely supportive of Israel. I believe it is crucial that America stays with our very, very significant alliance there as well as there. Hamas is the one who started this, and it could all end straight now. Hamas could surrender and take all of the hostages again. They insisted on rejecting the recent ceasefire agreement, which would have allowed everyone to be fed and continue to advance more toward peace for six months. Hamas is presently however persuaded that they are not required to. They do n’t need to take any kind of a deal except, if anything, on their own terms. I do n’t think all of the capitulated and all those kinds of things are n’t helpful. And I do n’t believe that will persuade anyone who is currently convinced that we’re not committed to trying to have both sides on that.
There are a lot of liberals in your celebration who are angry with you for your continued support of Israel and Hamas, according to Tapper, “because I said legendary.” Why do you believe that to be true?
I can understand why anyone who is a very strong, powerful supporter of Israel may be upset about that, Fetterman said. If somebody is pretty much supporting the pro- Arab view, that’s okay. It’s fair, but I just decided to be on the edge for Israel on that, many right”.
