Pope Francis: Efforts to shut down Annunciation House are ‘madness’

Pope Francis spoke during an interview on CBS ‘ “60 Minutes” news publication present on Sunday evening, May 19 about the State of Texas’s plan to shut down El Paso’s Annunciation House and finish the job it does to help refugees.

The bishop was informed of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s plan to withdraw the El Paso nonprofit’s membership and locked down its functions.

” That is madness, sheer madness to near the border and keep them there. That is crazy. The migratory has to be received. Later, you see how you’re going to cope with them. Maybe after you send them back, I do n’t know. But each event ought to be considered fairly, right”? Pope Francis said.

In a complaint that was first filed in February, Paxton asserts that Annunciation House has promoted unlawful entry into the country and that it actually functions as a hoard house.

Annunciation House is” a voluntary organization that offers kindness to migrants, refugees, and refugees in El Paso”, according to the team’s website.

In the recent months since Paxton filed his first lawsuit, elected leaders in the El Paso area and Catholic leaders across the country have rallied around Annunciation House and defended its mission.
