Microsoft made a number of original announcements during a particular hour-long presentation event held on May 20th at its Redmond school in Washington before today’s Build 2024 designer meeting. These presentations included:
- Copilot + PCs.
- Copilot and GPT- 4o.
- Recall.
- Surface Pro 11.
- Surface Laptop 7
- Artificial- tailored creative applications.
TechRepublic examines every big announcement made at the May 20, 2024 Surface and Copilot AI function.
Copilot + PCs
The first major announcement to come from the keynote was the launch of Microsoft’s new category of personal computers: Copilot + PCs. These PCs come with the Copilot AI built in as well as Snapdragon X Elite and Plus processors from Qualcomm capable of 40 trillion operations per second.

Additionally, the PCs come equipped with neurological control units created to support the brand-new AI capabilities in the Windows 11 working system. For example, a Copilot + PC will be able to make suggestions in Settings, write responses to notifications and edit files in File Explorer.
The Prism language part, which was added, makes it possible for applications written for Intel and AMD chips to function just as well on cards made with Arm systems. The company claims that this performs comparably also in comparison to Apple’s Rosetta 2, and it is Microsoft’s equal.
Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s head of consumer marketing, said the Copilot + devices are 58 % faster than the MacBook Air with its M3 chip. The products may be sold immediately by Microsoft but also by other companies, including Dell, Lenovo, Acer, HP and Asus.

Mehdi added that” the most powerful reason to upgrade your PC in a long time” will get faster AI assistants that run directly on the system.
Copilot and GPT- 4o
” I’m excited to share that GPT- 4o, with speech and vision capabilities, will soon be obtainable on Copilot”, Mehdi said at the celebration.
The new OpenAI design will be able to respond to questions based on the screen’s display. An illustration of how the AI could guide a person through the Minecraft sandbox video game was provided.

Recall
Recall is a brand-new AI-powered element that will make Copilot + PC users search the history of their device quickly and intuitively. It runs directly, logging all the system has done, including internet browsing, document creation and speech chats, so anything the user has come across via that PC can be called upon. Recall is incorporated into Timeline, the existing Panels feature that displays running apps and earlier activities, to create a simple-to-use scrollable software.
Rediscovering months-old PowerPoint presentations, clothing you were wearing website, and discussions gone by on apps like Discord using Recall was a topic that was addressed at the presentation. When it comes to safety, Recall information will only be stored on the system and will not be used to teach Microsoft’s AI types, users can control which information is seen and stored.
Surface Pro 11
The first of new Copilot + PCs is the Surface Pro 11. Its Snapdragon X Elite and Plus chips, based on Arm architecture and replacing the previous iteration’s Intel Core Ultra processor, make it up to 90% faster.
Many of the programs on the Surface Pro 11, including Microsoft 365, Chrome, Spotify, Zoom and WhatsApp, run directly on ARM64 chips for improved effectiveness. It is also appropriate with a new Surface Pro Flex Keyboard, which works attached or detached. There is a Surface Slim Pen owner for backup and charging, and the keyboard and keypad have been made to be more accessible.
When it comes to its physical features, the Surface Pro 11 has a 13- foot display and is available in blue, grey, black and platinum. The tablet has a 10 MP rear camera that can record 4K video and a QHD front-facing camera. Additionally, it is the first Surface device with HDR support and an OLED display option. The new Surface Pro will go on sale on June 18, but pre-orders are now available for$ 999.99.

Surface Laptop 7
The Surface Laptop 7 runs on Snapdragon X Elite and Plus chips in addition to the new AI features, which was unveiled at Monday’s event. With 22 hours of on-device video playback and 15 hours of web browsing, it is more than 80 % faster than the previous Surface Laptop and has almost double the battery life.
The Surface Laptop 7 was running an Adobe Photoshop image at the same time as an Apple MacBook Air, and the latter was roughly twice as fast. The new laptop has also been given a new look with thinner bezels, colour options of blue, beige, black, and platinum, and either a 13.8 inch or 15- inch display. It is available to pre- order now, starting at$ 999.99, but wo n’t ship until June 18.

AI- optimized creative apps
Microsoft made a number of announcements that increased the product lineup’s creative potential. These were:
- Microsoft is partnering with Adobe and other creative software companies to optimize its app suite for Copilot + PCs. Adobe’s Photoshop, Lightroom, Firefly and Express will be available on the Surface Laptop 7 and Pro 11 devices, and Illustrator and Premiere Pro will be optimized and deployed later this summer.
- Many creative apps, including DaVinci Resolve, CapCut, Cephable, LiquidText and djay Pro, have been developed to run natively on the ARM64 processor to boost performance with the NPU.
- Cocreator, a text or brushstroke-to-image AI tool, will be available with Paint in Copilot + PCs. As well as taking inputs, it can iterate on existing sketches to aid editing and the brainstorming of ideas.
