NEW DELHI: The Taiwanese government started a two- time mutual military exercise,’ Joint Sword- 2024A’, around Taiwan in the first hours of Thursday morning, as reported by Taiwanese state media outlets.
People’s Liberation Army’s Eastern Theater Command commenced the drills at 7: 45 am ( 2345 GMT ) around various locations, including the Taiwan Strait and the areas to the north, south, and east of Taiwan, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Also, the military training are being conducted in the vicinity of numerous islands, especially Kinmen, Matsu, Wuqiu, and Dongyin.
Only three days after Lai Ching-te became the new leader of the self-governing beach, these workouts began.
However, China has labeled Lai a “dangerous secessionist” who will take “war and decrease” to the area.
According to military spokesman Li Xi, the drills does “focus on shared sea-air combat readiness patrol, combined combined seizure of complete battlefield control, combined precision strikes on key targets,” as reported by Xinhua.
Li further stated that the exercises will require” the guard of vessels and planes closing in on areas around the island of Taiwan and integrated operations inside and outside the area network to check the combined real battle capabilities of the forces of the control.”
According to Xinhua, the spokesperson emphasized that the drills serve as a” strong punishment for the separatist acts of ‘ Taiwan independence ‘ forces and a stern warning against the interference and provocation by external forces.”
