Paris: On Wednesday, France declared that recognizing a Palestinian state was no “taboo,” but Paris believes that this is not the correct time to do so.
The remarks came after Norway, Ireland, and Spain announced that they would recognize a Palestinian state starting on May 28, causing both Israel and Palestinian leaders to be enthralled.
Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne stated in a speech to AFP that “our status is clear: the reputation of a Palestinian state is not a taboo for France.”
” This selection may be helpful, that is to say allow a significant step forward on the social level”, he added.
France does hardly believe that the requirements have been met so that this choice can have a significant influence on this approach, he said.
The official recognition of a Palestinian state has been viewed as the final product of a peace approach between Palestinians and their Jewish neighbors for years.
The United States and the majority of Western European countries have declared they are willing to grant Israeli statehood, but not before there is agreement on sensitive issues like Jerusalem’s status and last borders.
But after Hamas’s October 7 assaults and Israel’s reprisal strategy in Gaza, ambassadors are reconsidering after- controversial ideas.
