New regulations are being put in place in New York City to determine how long immigrants without babies may reside in city shelters before being told to find their own bedrooms.
The town has struggled to deal with a migrant flood, which was brought in by the governor. Greg Abbott ( R- TX ), with New York City Mayor Eric Adams complaining that the boom has overwhelmed the state’s apartments. The area has a “right to house” plan, meaning it may give sanctuary to anyone who asks. In order to change this policy, Adams and protesters reached a bargain, removing the right to shelter expat adults without children after 30 days.
People were permitted a longer stay and were subject to review and approval as part of the agreement, which included a case-by-case base. Before they had left, those between the ages of 18 and 23 are given 60 days of sanctuary before they can provide proof of “extenuating circumstances.”
