San Bernardino County , prosecutors charged an 18- year- aged person this week in the fatal shooting of a , U. S.  , Marine in , Twentynine Palms , and the reported attempted murder of two different people, authorities said.
Rudy Garcia Jr. is accused of killing 35- season- old , Robert James McDonald , on Monday evening while he sat in his vehicle with his puppy,  , the , Sheriff’s Department , said in a media release. McDonald was an energetic- work artillery commander stationed with the , Marine Corps Logistic Operations Group , in , Twentynine Palms,  , according to the district attorney’s office.
Sheriff’s deputies responded quickly before , 8 p. m.  , to reviews of a group of four or five persons causing a commotion near the intersection of , Old Dale Road , and , Alpine Avenue, officials said. First, a cousin tried to speak with the party, but some of the people became angry.
Not long after the swap, one of the offenders, who was later identified as Garcia, fired several shells from a weapon toward the cousin and another individual, officials said. Neither was hit, officials said, and Garcia ran toward , Knott Sky Park , on , El Sol Avenue.
Specialists claim that the other individuals who were with Garcia did not see them again and that they had changed their plans. However, Garcia then approached McDonald, who was sitting in his vehicle near a canine park on Foothill Drive, and fired his gun straight at the car without warning during what the government claimed was a carjacking attempt. According to specialists, McDonald was struck numerous times and attempted to drive away but lost control and crashed into another vehicle.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene and provided medical assistance to Restaurant, but he died at the scene, according to officials. The drivers in the other auto only suffered minor wounds.
Garcia fled, but coroner’s deputies found him shortly after the killing and took him into custody. A weapon believed to have been used in the firing was also found in the area, according to the , Sheriff’s Department.
The district attorney’s office charged Garcia with death, attempted burglary, attempted following- level assault, two counts of premeditated attempted murder and two counts of abuse with a automatic firearm. According to the prosecution, additional specific allegations have also been filed in the case.
