President downplays specific choosing, scholarships for ,
Northwestern University’s cope with pro- Arab protesters is “disgraceful”, according to Congresswoman Virginia Foxx.
The representative from North Carolina made the remarks to” Stopping Antisemitic College Chaos” during the House Committee on Education and the Workforce hearing on Thursday.
Northwestern President Michael Schill, Rutgers University officials, and the University of California Los Angeles were present at the receiving.
President Schill, during questioning by Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik, said the agreements were part of normal software. He added that he stated in his opening statement that he believed the agreement to end the camp without farther issues was the best way to do so.
Northwestern agreed to give five full- ride scholarships to Israeli students, use” two]Palestinian ] faculty per year for two years”, and provide a home for Middle Eastern and Muslim pupils. Additionally, the school agreed to re-establish a student-friendly investment advisory council for its assets.
The College Fix has received numerous email and phone calls in recent weeks asking about the legality of the Palestinians, including questions regarding scholarships, possible funding for Jewish students, and for other standard inquiries.
Schill, however, claimed during the reading that the selecting of Middle Eastern professors was a part of a long-standing program to help academics from “war-torn countries.” He made similar remarks about the deal that would grant Arab students full-ride scholarships, and he claimed Israelis would have the same prospect.
” It is not a novel program”, he said, saying the Buffet Institute programme has recently supported students from battle- torn places. He added that a meditation room for Muslim students was already in the works during the home because of their want. He said the college had worked with Jewish individuals, Catholics, and Lutherans to help them get a suitable location.
Rep. Foxx had questioned Schill about how the “quotas” “applies to the Civil Rights Act.”
The College Fix recently reported that students had camped out on Deering Meadow for months.
Schill criticized the “despicable rise in hatred” on college campuses following the October 7, 2023 criminal attack. He said he was “personally” “alarmed” due to losing community people in the Holocaust. He claimed that his home was based in Israel. The university announced that it would update the scholar manual to tackle antisemitism and that it would form a task force.

The school did not give into the child’s needs, Schill said, and noted that the class declined to withdraw from Israel.
He claimed that Northwestern has no intention of boycotting or selling its investments, and that the advisory committee had already been established and that the school intended to reset it.
Israeli recommend calls agreement ‘ ridiculous,’ and ‘ horrifying’
A law professor from City University of New York who supports racism criticized the agreement last week in a telephone interview with The Fix.
The offer “is a determination to increasing antisemitism”, Professor Jeffrey Lax told The Fix.
He leads Kids, Alumni, and Faculty for Equality on Campus, a class in support of Israeli citizens at CUNY.
Lax called it “outrageous” that Northwestern “even negotiat]ed ] with people who have committed violence, people who have called for death to America, death to Zionists”.
The doctor questioned how Northwestern may locate suitable candidates, citing a poll that revealed just 10 % of Palestinians in Israel believed Hamas had committed war crimes. ” How are you going to get the 10 percent”, he asked artistically during the meeting.
He claimed that” the entire concept is horrifying to me that they’re actually negotiating with them to begin with.”
The pro- Palestinian activists are” not the victims, the victims are Jewish people who ca n’t walk to class safely, the victims are Americans whose values are being lied about, being misrepresented”.
” So, to bring in more of these people, I do n’t know how you do that statistically”, he said, commenting on the scholarships for Palestinian students.
” I’m really pro- immigrant, my kids are immigrants, but it has to be done the right way, people have to be brought in with screening and making sure they want to adapt to American values and American society”, he said. They wo n’t come here and repeat the same antisemitic and anti-American tropes that these protesters are using, they say.
He said more:
I want to know first what their strategy is to bring in people who support the straight of Jews to live and that of Americans as Americans to live their lives because all I hear at these gatherings are “death to America,” “death to Israel,” and really terrible tropes used to Americans, Israelis, and Jews.
” I think it’s despicable what they’re doing, irresponsible, and it’s only going to exacerbate the problem”, he said. It rewards individuals for engaging in behavior that is “illegal, wrong, terrible, discriminatory, and occasionally violent.”
