SAN DIEGO ( Border Report ) — Women from the U. S. and Canada account for almost all the cosmetic procedures done in Tijuana, according to Atzimba Villegas, chairman of Baja California’s Health Tourism Association.
“Most of the clients are from the U. S. and Canada as well as some Western women, ” said Villegas. “Primarily it ’s gastrointestinal procedures, plastic surgery and dental work. ”
Villegas believes in five times there will be more cardiologist, fertility and restorative procedures done.
“We are expecting three days as many foreign clients in the next five years and many more will continue to seek aesthetic function, ” she said.
According to Villegas, there are 8,000 manufacturers in Baja California delivering health services to immigrants, including 525 facilities and professional clinics that perform surgeries.
Villegas warns individuals not to be influenced by reduced prices or someone’s advice.
“Don’t come here looking for a deal or because someone recommended a physician. Look for credentials and qualifications for the hospitals and physicians involved that you ensure your security, because there are lives at stake here, ” Villegas said.
According to the Medical College of Tijuana, a secret organization that certifies doctors in Baja California, there are only 60 plastic surgeons who are board certified and qualified to perform plastic processes in the state, but there are 600 who don’t have the qualifications to be doing this type of medical job.
