Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) said Sunday on CBS ’s “Face the Nation ” that former President Donald Trump wanted to keep the U. S. -Mexico frontier a “mess. ”
Limited text as follows:
MARGARET BRENNAN: You’re talking about the expenses you helped writer, and- and it was put up for a ballot, which, they knew it was going to refuse, it- this was about communication. But, like, Senator Gary Peters, who’s trying to help Liberals defend the majority in the Senate, was on this program last year, and he said completely, the leader should be talking about the frontier more. Why is n’t he?
MURPHY: I agree that the British citizens want to talk about border security. And right now, the leader has the option to go out there and talk about a Democratic Party plan negotiated with Democrats that would get the frontier under control. And a player President–
BRENNAN: Or he could’ve spent months and weeks whipping help for it.
MURPHY: Or- and- President Trump’s desire to keep the frontier a disaster because he thinks that it helps him socially. This is as obvious a comparison as has ever been available to the Democratic Party on the issue of the borders. Democrats support republican border security, Republicans want the boundary to be a mess, because it ’s good elections for them. And the President and every Democrat running for office may be talking about that.
BRENNAN: But- but you know, and we really dug in strong on this act that you helped writer on this system, but for Americans who just want something done, you know, the ifs and buts actually don’t matter little. The president was taking administrative action and has been talking about it since back in February, when the Homeland Security Secretary mentioned it was being considered. Should he just getting caught trying? Pull the trigger, do things on professional action?
MURPHY: The president has quite limited ability to challenge professional purchases that would have an impact on the border. He can’t create assets out of thin atmosphere. If he were to try to shut down servings of the frontier, the courts may put that up, I think, within a matter of days. The only thing that will provide –
BRENNAN: 212( f ) authority that ’s being mulled here.
MURPHY: Yeah, I- I think the only thing that will bring order to the west boundary is bipartisan policy. We have a republican border expenses. If Republicans decided to support it, it would go. We may get it to the president ’s office. It is up to Donald Trump and Republicans as to whether they want to solve the problem at the boundary, or whether they want to keep the frontier a disaster because it helps them socially in this upcoming vote.
