
At least 10 people were reported killed and many more injured by strong winds that ripped through pieces of Texas , Oklahoma and Arkansas, leaving a path of shattered buildings and wrecked cars.
Rescue personnel were scouring the wind dust Sunday in a group of mobile homes northwest of Dallas and had confirmed five casualties, according to Cooke County Sheriff Ray Sappington. The sheriff did n’t identify where the dead were found.
“Sadly, I think that number will increase, ” Sappington told The Weather Channel.
Government in Arkansas and Oklahoma told The Associated Press there were another five persons dying and more injured across the state. Two persons died in Oklahoma and three more were killed in two Arkansas regions, local officials told the news company, adding that crisis response efforts were continued.
A storm was spotted in the area near Valley View, Texas, about 60 kilometers east of downtown Dallas on Saturday evening, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. Experts had warned earlier that intense storms, hurricanes and hail the size of sport balls were likely to bludgeon the area near the Texas-Oklahoma express range.
The winds also hit a vacation centre along an interstate bridge where officials said travelers had taken shelter. Broadcast news footage showed police cruisers and paramedics gathered near a gasoline station that was reduced to stacks of twisted material. Cars and trucks could be seen amid the dirt with their panels blown out.
