During his Memorial Day speech at Arlington National Cemetery, Joe Biden recalled the loss of his eldest son Beau nine times before.
Joe Biden acknowledged that his pain was different from that of people who lost loved ones while serving in the military, telling those in the crowd that he understood “how difficult it can be to reopen that dark hole in the middle of your torso” whenever they remember them.
” As it is for so many of you, the anguish of his loss is with me every day, still strong, also obvious”, he said Monday.
Beau Biden, a former state attorney general in Delaware who advanced to the rank of major in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps before passing away from brain tumor in 2015 at the age of 46, was given a Bronze Star Medal for his annual service in Iraq. Joe Biden has argued repeatedly that his father’s cancer was brought on by his exposure to toxic burn mines while traveling abroad.
Biden likewise directly mentioned former US president Donald Trump by stating how important it is to respect and respect those who serve or have served.
He said,” We gather at this sacred place for this solemn moment to honor and remember the sacrifice of the hundreds of thousands of women and men who have given their lives to this country.” ” Each some bound by a typical devotion, not to a position, not to a man, no to a leader, but to an idea unlike any concept in human history: the idea of the United States”.
Before taking part in the wreath-laying service at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with Vice President Kamala Harris, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Charles Q., Biden  hosted a Memorial Day meal at the White House for management officials, defense leaders, soldiers, and Gold Star community members earlier on Monday. ” Thanks to our fallen, the bedrock of our rights remains unshaken”, Brown said during the celebration at the local Memorial Amphitheater. It’s up to us to advance the cause for which our fallen people died and uphold the privileges for which they fought.
” In the end, America’s greatest tactical asset will always be our people”, Austin said. But let’s consider our fallen heroes and work to protect the democracy for which they fought and perished. We must do what they did, also.
