In a disastrously quick implementation that has forced the woke online large personally disables some searches, Google’s new AI Overview feature has been generating ridiculous and occasionally harmful responses. For instance, the Silicon Valley agency’s woke AI suggests that pregnent people smoke” 2- 3 cigars per day”.
The Verge reports that , Google’s AI Overview, a feature that has been in beta tests for over a month, is now facing attention due to its peculiar and possibly dangerous outcomes. The AI-powered research function has been the subject of a burst of memes on social media, from suggesting customers put glue on their pizza to suggesting that people eat rocks. As a result, Google is constantly turning down AI Outlines for particular scans as memes gain popularity, with many of them disappearing right away after being shared on social media.
Given that Google has been conducting extensive AI Overview tests for a while, the situation is particularly intriguing. Sundar Pichai, the company’s CEO, also claimed that the company had completed a billion concerns in this time. But, Pichai also mentioned that Google had reduced the cost of delivering AI comments by 80 percent, driven by improvements in technology, engineering, and technical advances. It appears that this marketing does have occurred early, before the technology was thoroughly prepared.
An unidentified AI leader made a comment regarding the situation, saying that” a company that was once known for being on the cutting edge and shipping high-quality products is now known for producing low-quality output that is meme-worthy.”

Despite the criticism, Google maintains that its Artificial Overview product usually provides “high value knowledge” to people. Meghann Farnsworth, a Google director, noted that many of the cases seen have been in response to surprising questions and that some have been doctored or irreproducible. Additionally, Forbesworth confirmed that the business is quickly removing AI Outlines from some questions as needed and using these examples to create more extensive improvements to their systems, some of which have already been implemented.
Gary Marcus, an AI professional and retired professor of neural technology at New York University, believes that some AI companies are” selling dreams” that this technology will rapidly progress from 80 percent to 100 percent accuracy. Although the first 80 percent is relatively simple because it involves comparing a lot of human data, Marcus contends that the final 20 percent is extremely difficult and may call for artificial general intelligence ( AGI ).
With rivals like Bing and OpenAI making significant strides, and younger users turning to platforms like TikTok for the best experience, Google is undoubtedly feeling the pressure to compete in the AI search market. However, this pressure can lead to rushed AI releases, as evidenced by Meta’s Galactica AI system, which had to be taken down shortly after its launch in 2022 due to similar issues, such as telling people to eat glass.
