Justin Welby, the archbishop of Canterbury, has been accused of “hypocrisy” for traveling the world and calling for more aggressive measures to combat climate change.
Under Welby’s command, the Church of England has adopted a strict Net Zero plan, moving the date of carbon neutrality ahead by 15 times, from 2045 to 2030.
The Church has put pressure on nearby communities by urging them to remove their gas and oil stoves with heat pump and solar panels as part of its effort to rid itself of fossil fuels.
Speaking at the 2023 Abu Dhabi global climate conference, the pope urged earth faith leaders to “lead by case” in the fight against climate change.
” Our actions must reflect our beliefs, and our beliefs may guide our steps”, Welby said.

According to him, there is still much more work to be done, “from devotion to phasing out fossil fuels and developing technologies that can give clean energy, to delivering on the 100$ billion climate financing promised, and agreeing on a Loss and Damage Fund.”
The Daily Mail studied Archbishop Welby’s new air travel, however, and found that by June he may have traveled more than 48, 000 yards on ten visits since last September, visiting like far websites as Guatemala, El Salvador, Pakistan, Gaza, Panama, Costa Rica, and Zanzibar.
According to the newspaper, these flights alone have added at least 15 tons of CO2 emissions to the archbishop’s carbon footprint.
The prelate cannot have it both ways, critics insist, since Welby’s green evangelism directly conflicts with his well- earned moniker of the” Archbishop of Airmiles”.
The archbishop” chooses to spend so much time away when there is so much going wrong at home,” according to an unnamed senior church official, was “quite extraordinary.”

His own diocese is showing the worst figures for young people of any diocese, and he is too busy doing it, the cleric said.” His own diocese is showing a catastrophic decline in attendance.
Another Anglican leader, Reverend Marcus Walker, chairman of the Save our Parish Network, said that if the church is making compromises on the archbishop’s air travel, “perhaps we should compromise for parishes struggling to replace their boilers”?
Professor Roy Faulkner, a member of the Church of England’s General Synod, claimed that Welby “almost sees himself as a member of the Foreign Office and spends a lot of time doing foreign trips.”
That is not his main task, he said. I would agree he’s the Archbishop of Airmiles”, Faulkner said.
