Tourists are the latest to foot the bill for improper immigration in the Big Apple, and they are already paying.
New York City is more expensive than ever to travel to, in part because of Mayor Eric Adams ‘ ( D) conversion of numerous hotels into temporary housing for newcomers, according to a report from the New York Times on Saturday. As Breitbart News has chronicled, Adams now has about 65, 000 refugees living in more than 16, 500 resort areas across New York City.

Whether or not immigrants are staying in the room, the effect has been skyrocketing motel room prices for tourists who pay the price, whereas hotels, frequently owned by the largest companies, are making up to$ 185 per night in revenue.
” The average daily rate for a hotel stay in New York City increased to$ 301.61 in 2023, up 8.5 percent from$ 277.92 in 2022, according to CoStar, a leading provider of commercial real estate data and analysis”, the Times reported:

Prices have remained high throughout New York City as refugees enter the city unaffected by the prospect of finding work or staying in a shelter.
Prices in New York City are” so substantial that only five percent are cheap for the typical salary,” according to a recent report from Bloomberg.
According to Bloomberg,” Soaring rents and high upfront costs mean that fewer than 5 % of New York City apartments were affordable for the average local worker last year.”
New Yorkers earned on average just under$ 89, 000 last year, meaning they could afford up to$ 2, 216 per month on housing without spending more than 30 % of their annual income, according to a new report by Zillow Group Inc.’s StreetEasy and tech: nyc. The average worker could only afford 4.4 % of rentals on the market without breaking that affordability threshold, according to the report, which includes the first month’s rent, a security deposit, and broker fees that amounted to$ 10, 454 last year. ]Emphasis added]
Adams has pleaded with President Joe Biden to more rapidly obtain work permits for migrants who arrive at the country’s southwestern boundary and are then freed into the United States inside despite improper immigration sending resort and housing prices to record highs.
Researchers have recently told Breitbart News that the widespread distribution of work permits to newly arrived immigrants may act as a pull-in for more illegal immigration to the southern border as opposed to a deterrent.
