NEW DELHI: After Norway and Spain, Ireland also, on Tuesday, officially recognised the appease of Palestine, despite Israel‘s angry reaction following seven months of operation in Gaza.
At the conclusion of a peace process, Ireland’s prime minister, Simon Harris, said,” We had wanted to recognize Palestine, but we have done this, along with Spain and Norway, to preserve the miracle of peace.”
He deeper urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “listen to the world and stop the humanitarian crisis we are seeing in Gaza.”
Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide praised the action as” a special day for connections between Norway and Palestine.”
For more than 30 years, Norway has been one of the most ardent supporters of a Arab position, he continued.
Spain followed suit by announcing that the government had formally recognized Palestine, calling it a “historic day.”
Prior to this, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez asserted that such recognition was” an important need” for peace and that it was the only way to ensure a coming” Arab position living side by side with the state of Israel in peace and security.
He further said that the choice reflects Spain’s “outright dismissal of Hamas, which is against the two- state answer”.
Before his own case meeting, British Prime Minister Simon Harris described it as” an important time” that” sents a message that there are practical actions you can take as a nation to help keep the wish… of a two-state solution dead.”
Reward for violence
Israel reacted furiously to Norway, Spain, and Ireland’s determination to recognize the Palestinian state, calling the decision “reward for terrorism.” Additionally, three Western countries ‘ ministers were recalled.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said,” The goal of many European countries to identify a Arab state is a prize for terrorism.”
” This would be a terrorist state. We wo n’t agree with it, he continued, and it would try to repeat the massacre on October 7.
He said,” Rewarding terrorism wo n’t bring peace, and it wo n’t help us defeat Hamas.”
