In accordance with a new security law, Hong Kong national security authorities detained six people on Tuesday for alleged subversive objective, including a pro-democracy attorney who is already in jail. The six were allegedly using a Twitter website to “advocate anger” against the govts in Hong Kong and China and the court, according to safety director Chris Tang.
He claimed that Chow Hang- jin, a well-known attorney and pro-democracy activist who has been detained since Sept. 2021 at a maximum safety prison, was one of the people detained. In spite of widespread protest, these were the first prosecutions under a fresh batch of national safety laws that were passed by the state’s pro-Beijing government in March.
