Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, obtained from Spain on Monday a pledge of additional air defense weapons to combat the roughly 3, 000 explosives that Russia, according to him, launch at Ukraine every month in the second year of the conflict.
However, according to Zelenskyy, Ukraine also urgently requires additional seven Patriot air defense systems made by the United States to prevent Russia from bombing civilian and military targets with devastating sail bombs that cause widespread destruction, Zelenskyy said.
” If we had these modern Patriot systems, ( Russian ) airplanes would n´t be able to fly close enough to drop the ( glide ) bombs on the civilian population and the military”, Zelenskyy told a news conference in the Spanish capital.

Fly bombs are heavy bombs made of materials from the Soviet era that are launched from aircraft that are out of the air’s reach. The explosives weigh more than a bit and storm targets to shreds, leaving a great crater.
Two Patriot systems are required to guard the northern Kharkiv region, where the Kremlin’s forces launched a cross-border offensive on May 10 that left Russian forces reeling, Zelenskyy said. Five people are also missing, according to provincial governor By Syniehubov, who announced Monday that the death burden from a fly bomb attack on a Kharkiv shopping mall on Saturday increased to 18.
The Kharkiv force has strained Ukraine’s now depleted army, which has been fighting Russia’s relentless incursions into the half occupied eastern Donetsk place in recent months. Zelenskyy said on Sunday that the Kremlin´s military is mustering at another place in Russia, further north but close to the roughly 1, 000- kilometer ( 600- mile ) front line, aiming to expand Ukraine’s depleted army thinner and break its resistance in the area.

Zelenskyy and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez signed a bilateral security agreement that allocates 1 billion euros ($ 1.1 billion ) of military aid to Ukraine in 2024, and 5 billion euros ($ 5.4 billion ) by 2027. Additionally included in the package are more Animal tank and artillery weapons.
” After more than two years ( of war ), Russia´s aggression continues, and that ´s why it is more necessary than ever to redouble our support”, Sánchez told the joint news conference.
The Patriot is a surface-to-air guided missile structure that was first used in the 1980s and is fire cruise missiles, shorter-range nuclear weapons, and other types of targets. It costs money but is productive and favored by soldiers all over the world.
The countries of Europe have resisted sending Patriot devices to Ukraine because they fear they might be in need.
Spain´s King Felipe VI previously welcomed Zelenskyy at the capital´s Barajas airports. On Tuesday, Zellenskyy was scheduled to arrive in neighboring Portugal.
Following Russia’s unpleasant in the Kharkiv region, he had been scheduled to travel to Spain earlier this month, but he put off all of his overseas trips.

Ukraine has repeatedly attempted to attack Russian targets using drones, frequently despite Russia’s new improvement in its reaction to the new autonomous vehicle technology.
A Russian extended- range helicopter set a fresh distance record by attacking immediately an early- warning radar in the Russian city of Orsk, some 1, 800 kilometers ( 1, 120 miles ) from the Polish border, Russian officials claimed.
A GUR-led procedure was conducted by Ukraine’s military knowledge, an untrained knowledge national told The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the person had no authority to make a public comment. Ukraine´s previous long- range attack record was at 1, 500 kilometers (930 miles ) when a drone struck an oil refinery in Russia´s Bashkortostan on May 9.
Both claims could not be immediately verified.
Meanwhile, a Western intelligence assessment suggested that Russia´s Kharkiv offensive has subsided.
The U.K. Defense Ministry reported on Sunday that” the northern Kharkiv front has likely stabilized with Russian territorial control fragmented and not joined up.” ” Russia´s gains in this axis will be limited in the coming week, as Russia´s initial momentum has been contained by Ukrainian resistance”.
That is in line with Zelenskyy’s assertion last Friday that Ukrainian forces have” combat control” of areas where Russian troops have encircled the Kharkiv region.
The biggest military test facing Ukraine has been brought on by the ongoing meteorological improvement, which was Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. Ukraine is now at the mercy of Russia’s bigger army and air force due to slow support deliveries by its Western partners, particularly a protracted delay in U.S. military aid.
