The Republican Party has reached a crossroads following the conviction of former president Donald Trump on made fees in a Communist show test this year. The GOP may start a civil war from now on between those who accept that Democrats must do the same to Trump and those who believe they can continue doing business as usual.
And make no mistake, that break in the Republican Party is very true — and then, quite clear. In the midst of Trump’s faith Thursday, for instance, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was meekly motionless for most of the time.
Certainly that his visible silence was a wonder. Recall that a month ago , McConnell was also silent , for days after Trump was indicted in the classified records probe, as was majority Whip John Thune. Finally, McConnell issued the , weakest probable statement , late on Thursday,  , as did Thune, who hastily called the Manhattan test “politically motivated” and bemoaned the “partisan character of this prosecution”.
Various Republicans should have been more vocal than they were. Past governor of Arkansas It is not uncommon to see a former president and the presumed GOP candidate guilty of criminal acts, but the jury verdict should be respected, according to Asa Hutchinson, whose previous significant actions before leaving office was to veto a bill that would have protected children from trans genital mutilation.  , An appeal is in order but let’s not diminish the significance of this verdict”.
Hutchinson was n’t alone in calling for the rigged, obviously corrupt trial and Soviet- style conviction to be “respected”. The former GOP governor of Maryland, Larry Hogan, who is now running for U. S. Senate, encouraged people” to respect the verdict and legal process” and invoked the “rule of law” — a curious thing to say given how the entire trial made a mockery of the rule of law.
Former National Security Advisor and neocon hack John Bolton , said , Trump’s conviction was a “fire- bell in the night”, and that Republicans should” change course” and” not nominate a convicted felon for President”, as if he were reading DNC talking points. ( Ohio Sen. J. D. Vance had the , perfect riposte to this:” John Bolton finally encounters a war he does n’t want to fight”. )
These Republicans, especially McConnell, should be removed from the party right away. There is nothing stopping Senate Rs from holding the leadership election right now, according to Rachel Bovard, who was quoted on X. The only way forward is to engage in politics on the terms that Democrats themselves have set, given what the stakes are right now and what we know Democrats are willing to do to maintain their hold on power.
That means you have no idea when you need to be primaried, sidelined, or otherwise run out of the party if you’re a Republican candidate or elected official, especially if your plan is n’t to indict President Biden and other leading Democrats on criminal charges.  ,
Take the example of Republican attorney general of Virginia Jason Miyares, who appears to reside in a fictional world. On Thursday in the wake of Trump’s conviction,  , Miyares said,” In America, we do n’t seek to jail political opponents — we seek to defeat them at the ballot box”. Actually, Jason, in America only one major political party does that. The other one conducts show trials and imprisons its political rivals on false charges.
Put bluntly, Republicans have to make Democrats play by their own rules. Democrats must endure endless show trials and legal repression, just as Democrats have done to Trump. The leftist radicals who control the Democratic Party only understand power and will only resurrect when they are forced to use their own medicine repeatedly.  ,
What does that message resemble? Republican from Florida Anthony Sabatini appears to be running for Congress in an effort to “impose as many Democrats as possible” on Thursday.
If you’re a Republican running for office, you can just go ahead and throw away all of your elegant little policy proposals for this or that corporate exclusion or tax subsidy, as my Federalist colleague Sean Davis  said on Thursday. Give me a list of which Democrat officials you’re going to put in prison, or get lost”.
What does that look like in practice? Here’s one idea. President Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland should be immediately indicted in Texas for the ongoing border crisis, which in every way is a criminal human trafficking conspiracy that they have organized and supported by breaking federal immigration law.
Top Republicans like McConnell are actively supporting Democrats, which means they’re worse than worthless. McConnell’s weak, belated statement is the only way to explain how happy he is that Trump was found guilty and hopes he spends time in prison.
If the Republican Party is going to be anything other than a Democratic-controlled opposition that fiddles while the republic burns, it needs to expel its ranks of snakes like McConnell and advance those who do n’t mind breaking Democrats ‘ rules. A good way to break up the two groups would be to start contacting Republican candidates and officeholders to ask if they would be willing to prosecute high-ranking Democrats in court and, if necessary, to put them in jail.
With this show trial, Democrats have created the world that Democrats have called into motion. They are the ones who have cried” no quarter” in this fight. Republicans should at this point accept their terms and enter the conflict on equal footing.
Why is that so important? For two reasons. The first, as mentioned above, is that Democrats will never stop unless they are forced to suffer what Republicans would suffer. If we’re going to start incarcerating political opponents in America, it needs to go both ways. The only way to restore faith in the rule of law is to demand that those responsible pay for their actions and bring them to justice is now that Democrats have done this, have mocked our justice system, and have done so. Americans will have a justification for believing the entire system is illegitimate if Democrats are allowed to escape.
Republican officials now have to make a decision. They can either become Democrats and let the republic burn, or they can do whatever it takes to stop Democrats and restore confidence in our system.
