The implementation of a U.S. middle collection missile system in the north Philippines during military drills in April was strongly condemned by China’s defense department on Thursday, saying there were “heuchet risks of war” in the region.
Wu Qian, a spokesman for the Defense Ministry, stated at a press conference in Beijing that China remained extremely vigilant and opposed the initial implementation to the Indo-Pacific region.
Wu said,” The practices of the United States and the Philippines significantly undermined” regional peace by putting the entire area under the US’s fire and putting the area at risk of going to war,” Wu said.
According to Wu,” Intermediate-range missiles are proper and offensive weapons with a powerful Cold War color.”
China has an extensive conventional ballistic missile arsenal that includes its own advanced intermediate-range rockets.
As part of their Balikatan or” shoulder to shoulder” martial training, the United States announced last month that it had deployed its Existing missile system to the Philippines.
The weapon program, which you launch Tomahawk area attacks and SM-6 missiles, was delivered to Laoag town in Ilocos Norte province in northeastern Philippines, according to a top official from the Spanish military, Col. Michael Logico, in April.
But authorities did not say if the weapons program was transported abroad, or if it remains in the Philippines.
The missile system was not fired during the activities by the Philippines and the United States, but Logico claimed it was sent to evaluate the viability of heat transporting the 40-ton weapons system.
On Thursday, a spokeswoman for the Philippines ‘ army could not be reached for comment.
Around 16, 000 Filipinos and American soldiers participated in the monthly drills this year, some of which were conducted in northern Philippine islands close to Taiwan and in eastern waters facing the South China Sea, where China and other local claimants are at odds with each other.
China was irked by the exercises at the time, and it was concerned about destabilization when nations outside the region “flex muscles and fuel fight”
Representatives from the Philippines and the United States claimed that the tasks were aimed at enhancing interoperability between their forces and were n’t directed at any second nations.
