According to Alejandro Borja Robles with the National Chamber of Commerce in Tijuana, gas stations in Tijuana are operating at 50 % power as they gradually recover from a petrol shortage that has temporarily halted many facilities for days.
He claims that returning to normal may take about 10 times.
” Thankfully things are progressing, all channels report having some oil, although they are still not offering entire tank of gas to clients”, he said.
People of the area’s coastal town of Rosarito, located 20 miles west of Tijuana, began reporting scarcity on May 19 when the town’s gas stations were blocked.
They argued that the state of Baja California should give them whole title to the land where they had settled and built their houses.
The occupants claim that when Andrés Manuel López Obrador ran for president six years ago, he promised them whole property ownership.
After negotiating with Baja and national government officials next week, activists decided to end their siege.
Cars have recently been attempting to replenish the Tijuana area’s petrol stations 24 hours a day.
” By next week for certain we’ll get back to normal with oil inventory”, Borja Robles said.
He reports that during the gas lack, prices went up significantly.
We anticipate that as soon as the price of gasoline drops to the level of what we saw before the blockade, which went up by two pesos ( roughly 13 cents per liter ).
