SAN DIEGO ( Border Report )— Mexico’s National Institute of Migration ( INM) has a checkpoint at the Tijuana airport to provide direction and information for migrants, but Enrique Lucero, director of Tijuana’s Migrant Affairs Office, says the agents assigned to the area are doing anything but helping.
He claims that the agencies are obtaining cash from migrants by utilizing the station.
Since the workers have now cleared traditions in Mexico,” this filtering has been in place for years,” Lucero said. Instead of trying to extort money from refugees, they should respect their individual rights and give them information.
Lucero added workers are frequently threatened, particularly those who express their intention to enter the country without permission.
He claims to have spoken to INM managers about his fears.
” We ca n’t make them feel like they are delinquents, and it’s important to note they are victims, we ca n’t lie to them and then victimize them even more”, Lucero said.
In Tijuana’s airport terminals, according to Lucero, evidence showcasing immigrant rights in Mexico are being posted. Additionally, information regarding the CBP One software will also be made widely available.
Instead of relying on smugglers to cross the border, the app provides asylum applicants with sessions so they can get into the country and start their asylum cases.
” This information will get posted not only here but also at international airports where the workers are coming from,” said Lucero. We must do everything to stop migrants from entering the United States without authorization and becoming patients.
