Former first lady Michelle Obama revealed on Friday that Marian Robinson, her family, passed away at the age of 86.
In a post on X, the former first lady shared a connection to a joint statement from Michelle Obama and former President Barack Obama, and Craig and Kelly Robinson, along with Robinson’s children.
Michelle Obama described her daughter as having been her “rock” and added that she had often been” there for whatever” she needed.
The former first lady wrote in her article on X that “my mother Marian Robinson was my stone, always there for whatever I needed.” We are devastated to learn that she passed away today because she was our family’s constant backbone. We wanted to share some thoughts on her extraordinary lifestyle.

According to the Obamas and Robinsons, Marian Lois Shield Robinson is said to have “had a way of summing up the beliefs about living in a word or two” or even with a “quick expression that made people around her stop and think.”
Her knowledge appeared to be about innate, as if it were something she was born with, but in fact it was hard-earned and was based on her strong conviction that the world’s worst sides could always be sanded down with a little grace, the declaration continues.
Robinson is alleged to have been raised in a community of seven kids “on the red-lined South Side of Chicago.”
Prior to getting a career as a secretary, she had studied to become a tutor.
Robinson later met Fraser Robinson, whom she ended up marrying. The pair had two babies, Craig and Michelle.
” We will all miss her significantly, and we wish she were here to give us some view, to restore our heavy souls with a joke and a prescription of her wisdom”, the joint statement adds.
