In response to a House investigation into donations the Chamber’s Foundation had received from the Tides Foundation, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation ( USCCF ) president announced in an internal memo that she will step down from her position at the “end of the summer.”
According to the Hill, Carolyn Cawley may be leaving the U.S. Chamber of Commerce at the end of the summer, according to U.S. Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Suzanne Clark in an inner note.
Sharing the news that Carolyn may leave the Chamber at the end of the summertime is “bittersweet,” Clark wrote in her note. We had intelligent conversations about her need to concentrate on something much more personal, she said earlier this year.
Clark’s letter adds that Michael Carney, who had served as the senior vice president for the USCCF, was being moved up to serve as chairman of the base.
At the beginning of May, Rep. Jason Smith ( R- MO), the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, launched an investigation into the U. S. Chamber of Commerce ( USCC), and its foundation.
Smith requested answers to questions about donations the Tides Foundation, a “left-leaning firm that collaborates with and supports organizations that support policies that may harm the American business society,” in a text to Cawley and Clark.
Smith explained that a Breitbart News report from March indicated that between 2018 and 2022, the USCCF received more than$ 12 million “in funding from the Tides Foundation”, a George Soros- funded foundation.
The Tides Foundation’s donation helped pay for the soldiers ‘” Hiring Our Heroes” work program at the USCCF. Smith’s text adds:
It seems strange that the foundation had accept funding from a party like the Tides Foundation, which is so focused on activities that seem to conflict with the USCC’s stated goal of improving life” by advancing British business” and advocating” for plans that help companies create jobs and grow our business.
Officials from the USCC have claimed that the report was false following the report, but they have not specified “anywhere where there was any alleged factual inaccuracy in any of the Breitbart News stories.”
Cawley and Clark had until May 20 to respond to questions regarding the donations in the letter from Smith.
A representative from the House Ways and Means Committee confirmed to Breitbart News on Wednesday that Smith had not received any “relevant information” from the USCC prior to the deadline.
