A Reuters editor reported from the court in the town of Kazan on Friday that a Russian judge extended Alsu Kurmasheva’s pre-trial detention until August 5. Kurmasheva is a journalist who holds Russian and American citizenships.
Kurmasheva is a journalist for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty ( RFE/RL), which is based in Prague and is funded by the US Congress and is designated by Russia as a foreign agent, granting it funding for activities deemed to be political.
Her company claims that her arrest on suspicion of breaking Russian law governing foreign agents is politically motivated and wrong.
