
A fire was killed trying to save people in southern Germany who had been enduring severe flooding that was expected to last through Sunday.
The gentleman, 42, was in a recovery boat carrying four rescuers that capsized late on Saturday. His body was recovered early on Sunday, said a spokesperson for the Bavarian town of Pfaffenbach an der Ilm, around 50 km ( 30 miles ) north of Munich.
Authorities said rescue workers had to leave hundreds of people as the waters cut off some places despite the fact that communities had days to prepare for the flood.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the rescuers and assistants who are frequently dealing with the effects of the floods on X.
During a visit on Sunday, economic secretary and vice-chancellor Robert Habeck said he was sympathetic to the damaged areas and that more severe weather is being caused by climate change.
Natural disasters have always been a part of human nature. What we are seeing is that these situations occur more frequently than ever. Record storms occur every some years… report rainfall every some years”, Habeck, of the Greens Party, told people presenter n- tv.
In 2021, a significant flood in parts of Europe claimed the lives of almost 200 people, with Germany bearing the brunt. The crisis was mostly attributable to the effects of climate change, which sparked calls for stricter safety and warning measures.
