Last week, the International Atomic Energy Agency ( IAEA ) released a depressing report about Iran’s rapid progress with its nuclear weapons program. Iran’s improvement directly results from the Biden administration’s foreign policy problems.
According to the IAEA’s May report, Iran’s general hoard of enriched uranium increased by 1, 489.8 weight since the company’s next report in February. The state now has 13, 671.5 weight of enriched uranium, exceeding the 661 pounds stock control that Iran had agreed to in the 2015 nuclear deal. What’s even surprising is that Iran’s stash includes 313.2 pounds of uranium enriched up to 60 percentage.
One nuclear weapons is theoretically possible when the material is enriched farther to weapons-grade levels of 90 percent, according to Politico, at around 42 kilograms (92,5 pounds ) of uranium if the substance is enriched more to that level.
According to the most recent report from the IAEA, Iran’s belief in political negotiation is misplaced because it has no desire to break any foreign convention. Additionally, it demonstrates that Iran is well on the verge of developing nuclear weapons, perhaps sooner than later.
Iran’s real stockpile of enriched uranium is possibly higher than the figures IAEA reported because Iran never let the IAEA inspect its atomic system completely and has absolutely barred IAEA inspectors since September 2023. Rafael Mariano Grossi, the IAEA chief, warned that Iran has enough enriched uranium , to make” several” nuclear bombs.
Thanks to the Biden administration, Iran has been able to make such significant advancements in its nuclear program. Iran’s economy struggled before Joe Biden’s election as president, as a result of the Trump administration’s heavy economic sanctions following the U.S. withdrawal from the flawed nuclear deal from 2015. The Trump administration’s “maximum pressure” sanctions cost Iran at least$ 200 billion in oil revenue, and it had to cut its military spending and handouts to its militant proxies. Middle Eastern political leaders praised the Trump administration’s policy on Iran as the only method that had succeeded in halting Iran’s hostility.
Policy of Appeasement
But as soon as Biden came into office, he replaced the Trump administration’s maximum pressure policy toward Iran with his maximum appeasement policy. The Biden administration stated that resuming the nuclear negotiations with Iran was one of its top priorities in terms of foreign policy, insisting that a deal would make the world safer. The Biden administration has been throwing Iran numerous lifelines in an effort to win over the mullahs.
For instance, Iran reportedly exported$ 100 billion in oil since Biden took office because he has refused to abide by the Trump administration’s oil sanctions. Iran was also given access to$ 6 billion in unfrozen assets by the Biden administration. Team Biden had the wrong idea that Iran would only use the money for “humanitarian purposes.”
The Iranian regime, flush with cash, has been able to fund its proxies to cause serious harm to the U. S. military, allies, and international commerce. For instance, Hamas launched the Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attack against Israel. Yemeni rebels continue to attack Middle Eastern civilian and military targets with Iranian-provided missiles and drones, as well as tamp down international shipping in the Red Sea. Three U.S. service members were killed and at least 25 others injured in a drone attack launched by Iranian-backed militants early this year at a military base in northeast Jordan close to the Syrian border. The Middle East came dangerously close to waging a full-fledged war a few weeks ago when Iran launched its first ever direct missile attack on Israel.
Prioritizing the Election over Security
We now know that during President Biden’s first term, Iran made significant progress with its nuclear program as a result of the influx of funds. Due to President Biden’s failures in his foreign policy, the world is now much less safe.
Team Biden’s continued defiance of their policy failures and their willingness to alter their course of action is what is more depressing. They have prioritized how to stay in power for four more years over how to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons because they are so power-hungry.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the Biden administration, wanting to focus on the upcoming November election, has pressured European allies to back off plans to criticize Iran for , advances in its nuclear program. European allies are “frustrated over what they see as U. S. efforts to undermine their approach”, the Journal reports. They are deeply concerned that the Biden administration “lacks a strategy for dealing with Iran’s nuclear advances” and “appears unwilling to either pursue a serious diplomatic effort with Iran or take harsh measures against Tehran’s nuclear transgressions.” The Journal editorial board warned that “while Mr. Biden stalls until November, Tehran wo n’t. Expect the pace of enrichment to continue”.
Iran has made it abundantly clear that it views Israel and the United States as its eternal enemies. The fanatical mullahs will not be reluctant to use proxies to obliterate Israel and the United States, either directly or indirectly. The worst nightmare and biggest mistake in Biden’s foreign policy would be an Iran that has nuclear weapons.
