White House announces that Brownsville’s Flor de Mayo International Bridge has begun building
At least three leaders from the Rio Grande Valley, including Brownsville Mayor John Cowen Jr., Edinburg Mayor Ramiro Garza Jr., and Harlingen Mayor Norma Sepulveda, place headed to the nation’s congress. As is El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser, and Laredo Mayor Victor Trevino, Border Report has learned.
Sepulveda spoke with Border Report as she prepared to board a trip on Monday evening. She stated that she would be traveling to indicate the border region and make sure that lawmakers are aware of the security and business concerns that border communities face.
” The leader perhaps issue executive orders that may be issued tomorrow. But I do not have all of the facts. I want to be there if there is anything that will have an effect on my group, which I am only aware of. When discussing our borders, Haringen should be at the vanguard. And so that is the goal of my attendance”, Sepulveda said.
Since President Joe Biden visited Brownsville on February 29th, an administrative attempt has been anticipated.
When the Southwest border’s population exceeds 2,500 per day, according to several studies, Biden may issue an evacuation order to close it.
Sepulveda claims she is unsure of the details and is not entitled to provide any details that the White House has provided to her until the program is made public on Tuesday. She claims that she sincerely hopes it will help asylum seekers, secure the borders, and keep trade and commerce flowing through the Rio Grande Valley and the entire border territory.
” It is important for us to be constantly telling our narrative, in terms of safety, safety. Our goal is to secure our border, but we also want to ensure that the region’s development does not suffer. And we have been allowed to do that effectively. And we want to make sure that that continues”, she said.
Sepulveda, a lawyer specialising in emigration law, claims that the leader should take action in the event that Congress does not change the law.
It’s unfortunate that this has n’t happened, but it’s important that our Congress take accountability and be held accountable for their actions when it comes to a bipartisan bill being able to protect our borders. And when that is n’t the case, I believe the executive feels called to take action and needs to do something,” she said.
Mayor of Brownsville Cowen stated in a statement that he anticipates a” significant announcement at the White House” on Tuesday that may notably affect immigrants ‘ ability to seek asylum along the U.S. Southern border.
Mayor of El Paso Leeser said in a statement that “our immigration system is broken” and that he welcomes shifts to immigration and asylum procedures.
No society can continue to invest the time and resources we have spent on this charitable crisis. Our immigration system is broken, and it is crucial that Congress work on a bipartisan long-term plan to work with other nations in order to build a more manageable, humane, and sustainable immigration system for our country. We are grateful for the funding we have received from the federal government so that our efforts do n’t fall on the backs of El Paso taxpayers. I look forward to hearing more about the President’s program on Tuesday, and we stand ready to work with our partners at the local, state and federal levels on this work”, Leeser said.
Another action on the frontier
Sepulveda even praised a White House statement on Monday that Biden had signed an order authorizing the development of a fresh global bridge connecting Matamoros, Mexico and Brownsville, Texas.
Nearby politicians began a vigorous campaign just one year ago to get the approval to construct the long-awaited Flor de Mayo International Bridge.
She said that Cameron County, on the Gulf Coast, will be able to construct over the course of five years thanks to this political force.
” We’re going to be able to construct that bridge so that there are more pedestrian and vehicular crossings on the west side of Brownsville,” she said.” That’s going to promote even more our trade and our ability to ease that congestion at the Los Tomates Bridge and Gateway ( International ) Bridge.” ” The Valley is still growing. The necessity to be able to collaborate with our Mexican lovers is obvious. It’s stronger than previously. And emigration, we’re gonna get through it just like we often have. But we are still a group that’s growing and growing”.
