The famous British rock band Radiohead’s lead guitarist, Jonny Greenwood, explained in a statement on Tuesday why he continues to work with Israeli artists and criticizes Israel’s anti-Israel boycotts of Israeli art and culture.

In his speech, Greenwood says:
I ca n’t join that call because it feels unprogressive to me when Israeli film makers, musicians, and dancers are criticized when their work is abroad. Not least of all because these people are consistently the most democratic members of any community.
Working with the incredible musicians I’ve met on this project makes me feel much braver and takes a lot more of a principled risk than those who are trying to silence us or who are now trying to give the band a sinister hidden justification. There is n’t one: we are musicians honouring a shared culture, and I’ve been involved in this for nearly 20 years now.
No arts, in any case, is as “important” as halting all the suffering and death that surrounds us. How can it be? However, it seems worse to ignore what is happening. And silencing Israeli artists for being Jewish in Israel does n’t seem to be a way to come to an agreement between the two sides of this seemingly endless conflict.
According to Stereogum, Greenwood is married to an Israeli and is currently touring with Israeli singer Dudu Tassa. Radiohead has performed frequently in Israel and most just in Tel Aviv with Tassa. Greenwood has been seen at anti-government rallies in Israel, which are not ones against the battle but against Netanyahu.
