After being found guilty by a federal judge in February of two counts of aggravated sexual assault and one of abusive sexual contact for repeatedly raping a girl in August 2016 at the world-renowned national park, Charles Barrett, 40, was given a life sentence on Tuesday. &nbsp,

Barrett, who worked and lived in Yosemite, biologically assaulted a 19- yr- old lady three distinct times during a weekend in 2016. &nbsp,

According to his punishment letter, he once lured the victim to an isolated location and” strangled her until she feared demise” while raping her. &nbsp,

Three more people testified in court and shared related stories about Barrett sexually abusing them in 2010, 2015, and 2016, SF Gate&nbsp, reported. &nbsp,

‘ He is 100 % responsible for his actions. He knew what he was doing, and he made those options. He’s a demon, however,’ Sarah McKay, a former public administrator and co- proprietor of Santa Rosa’s Vertex Climbing Center told The Press Democrat. &nbsp,

When Barrett was 14 years older, he first joined the climbing wall. McCay referred to him as a “funny” and “goofy” man who was “definitely likable” and a skilled climber.

Barrett was never charged for the more women’s assaults because they were deemed to be outside of federal jurisdiction, according to the release. &nbsp,

Barrett, formerly from Santa Rosa, was hit with national expenses because Yosemite is home of the US government. &nbsp,

The unidentified victim claimed to have been a victim of another assault by Barrett while she stayed with him because she was afraid for her life and was “frozen state.” ‘&nbsp,

On January 6, 2017, the woman drove to the&nbsp, Sebastopol Police Department and told police that Barrett was at her home, refusing to leave. &nbsp,

Authorities responded to her home the same night for similar behavior, including her claim that Barrett was physically trying to break into her home, at least twice more. ‘&nbsp,

The following day, the police called her home again after she called and reported Barrett had attempted to break in once more. &nbsp, &nbsp,

When police arrived, Barrett lied about his identity and was taken into custody after he provided his ID. &nbsp,

For that, he was charged with trespassing, unauthorized entry of dwelling and disorderly conduct. &nbsp,

Barrett entered a no contest to trespassing and received a 24-month probation while the other two charges were dropped, despite receiving a six-month prison sentence. &nbsp,

Soon after he was detained for lying to police, the woman informed them that he had unannounced threatened to commit suicide when he arrived at her home. ‘&nbsp,

‘ On an unspecified date, Defendant showed up at]victim’s ] house with suicidal ideations. When they were alone, Defendant pinned ]her ] to the ground with his full body weight so that she was unable to move or breathe,’ then sexually assaulted her ‘ while she told him to get off her,’ court documents said. &nbsp,

According to U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert, Barrett continued to threaten his victims when they attempted to report him. &nbsp, &nbsp,

He assaulted women in the rock-climbing community because of his reputation, and Barrett lashed out in public with threats and intimidation when his victims started to tell, Talbert said. &nbsp,

This incident is a testament to the victims ‘ bravery, according to the statement. ‘&nbsp,

The prosecution discovered that Barrett did n’t show any “remorse or regret” for his actions in the over 100 calls he made while in jail. &nbsp,

Gorden Cooley, who now owns the Vertex Climbing Center, said that when he joined in 2005, he remembered Barrett for his ‘ pretty magnetic’ personality that some people enjoyed, while others ‘ did n’t. ‘&nbsp,

Cooley added that Barrett “had a drinking problem” that the majority of people soon became aware of. ‘&nbsp,

‘ When he was n’t drinking he was climbing at a world- class level, When he was drinking, it was completely different,’ Cooley said. &nbsp,

‘ It’s unbelievably shocking to see that pattern of behavior had gone on for so long, with someone you thought you knew,’ Cooley said about Barrett’s predatory actions.

According to McGee, Barrett’s conviction was” the most complex and difficult sexual assault investigation I have ever participated in,” according to the affidavit. ‘&nbsp,

McGee said she felt that way because Barrett “presented a number of potential victims and witnesses with a fear of retaliation.” &nbsp,

According to court records, Barrett was heard telling a friend that” something will happen to the victims’ in the courts” or not during a pre-trial call in October 2022. ‘&nbsp,

He added that he had “people” inside jail with him and that he had a “place” with murders inside of it. ‘&nbsp,

Four women filed against Barrett starting in 2008, according to author Annette McGivney, who discovered that the latter had “at least nine criminal protective orders or restraining orders” against him. All of the women claimed to be feared for their lives. ‘&nbsp,
