Some Trump critics are relieved to see Donald Trump held accountable for, also, being thus dislikeable after a Manhattan jury found him guilty on 34 misdemeanor counts at the conclusion of the politically motivated trial on Thursday.  ,
Ana Navarro, inc- variety of political talk show” The See” and famous Trump- bigot, put it this way:” This is a man who made my life a living hell for four decades, has made the life of our nation a living hell for six times”, Navarro said. “ And so he deserves to be accountable. He’s been Teflon Don his entire life. He has been abusing his entire life to commit fraud, lying, and other criminal conduct.
Much of the same was written for The New Republic by Alex Shephard. Some of that is addressed by the hush-money trial. … Was Trump trying to manipulate the election? Was he attempting to conceal a relationship with his wife? A little bit of column A and column B, perhaps? We’ll never know precisely”, Shephard said. What is clear is that Trump is crooked and more than a little sleazy, two traits that have, in some ways, been a part of his self-image since he first appeared in public more than 40 years ago.
To Navarro, Shephard, and many others, the fact that Trump seems politically unpalatable and criminal is proof he deserves to be convicted of some sort of crime, whatever that may be.  ,
Not only is this sentiment unprincipled — it is dangerous. Individuals who agree with Navarro and Shephard’s theory may believe they are celebrating the conviction of a politician they detest. They are actually applauding the demise of a neutral justice system and the fall of democratic norms.  ,
This Is n’t Just About Trump
The weaponization of our justice system did n’t start with Trump, and it wo n’t end with him either.  ,
Paulette Harlow, an elderly woman who participated in a pro- life protest at a Washington, D. C., abortion clinic in 2020, was sentenced to two years in prison on Friday. She is 75 years old, a grandmother of eight, and in declining health. Harlow’s husband fears that she will pass away in prison, according to her husband.
The sentence comes after Harlow and nine others staged and staged a peaceful demonstration at the abortion facility in Washington Surgi. The group was protesting late-term abortionist Cesare Santangelo, who had previously been recorded by the pro-life organization Live Action as saying he would leave a child to die if they were born alive after an unsuccessful abortion.  ,
Government attorney Rebecca Ross claimed Harlow’s case was not about his pro-life beliefs, but her statement to the court revealed the contrary. Rosens then goes on to recommend a sentence of more than three years for Harlow and the other protestors who portray them as being devoid of” compassion” for women trying to abort their children.  ,
However, it is not accurate to say that Harlow’s actions lacked empathy. It is a case against Harlow’s pro- life beliefs, which she articulated in her own statement to the court.  ,
” We were there because we are compassionate, we do care, and we love them”, she said. It’s hateful that pregnant women in this country are only able to offer to kill their children, according to the president. That’s not help at all”.
If the prosecution of Harlow were truly about the “violent obstruction of reproductive healthcare” and” the civil rights of others”, as Ross claimed, we would be witnessing the equal prosecution of violent pro- abortion activists, who have committed vandalism, property damage, theft, and arson with increasing frequency since Roe was overturned in June of 2022. People who support life and pro-abortion would be assured that the rule of law is upheld and that justice is impartial.  ,
Instead, prosecutions of pro- abortion violence have been few and far between. At the direction of the Biden administration, the Department of Justice has aggressively pursued FACE Act prosecutions against pro-lifers. Only one of the 33 cases prosecuted violence against a pro-life pregnancy center, according to a Department of Justice report compiling recent FACE Act-related prosecutions.
That’s no mistake. If Lady Justice ever wore a blindfold, it has long since been removed.  ,
The left hijacks the federal court system and pursue pro-lifers because they are unable to legalize abortion nationwide. They use the courts to prosecute Trump as well because they are unable to thwart his improving chances in the 2024 presidential elections.  ,  ,
A Hijacked Court System
These kinds of political prosecutions illustrate the legal system’s descent into the politicization that our founding fathers warned against. Alexander Hamilton issued a similar warning in Federalist Paper No. 78:
For I agree, that” there is no liberty, if the power of judging be not separated from the legislative and executive powers”. And it proves, in the end, that liberty can be feared by its union with either of the other departments, not just the judiciary. …” A limited Constitution makes it peculiarly necessary for the courts of justice to be completely independent.”
An independent judicial system is no threat to the American people, Hamilton correctly observed. The greatest threat of all is a judicial system that has been hijacked by individuals in the executive and legislative branches. This is the very threat we are currently facing. If the downward spiral continues, our rights and privileges— namely, our right to vocally disagree with the federal government — will amount to nothing.  ,
In the meantime, the politicization of our courts is n’t consequence- free.  ,
According to a recent Ipsos poll, 47 percent of people believe that the charges brought against Trump by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg were politically motivated. This is the American court system’s worst case of no confidence ever. Public trust in the justice system is broken, and it’s not just Trump supporters who are concerned.  ,
Mitt Romney, a frequent Trump critic, accused Democrats of “political malpractice” and said Biden should have issued a pardon.  ,
” Bragg should have settled the case against Trump, as would have been the normal procedure. But he made a political decision,” Romney told Atlantic writer McKay Coppins.
Elie Honig, a lawyer for CNN, made a more blatant critique of the trial’s corruption.
The judge donated money to a pro-Biden, anti-Trump political operation in plain violation of a rule prohibiting New York judges from making any kind of political donations, Honig said. The” Manhattan DA’s employees reportedly have called this the’ Zombie Case ‘ because of various legal infirmities, including its bizarre charging mechanism. However, it’s better described as the Frankenstein Case, a pieced together with awkward parts to create an ugly, awkward, but more-or-less-functioning contraption that just might ultimately turn on its creator.
However, it is not just famous people and politicians who need to be concerned. After all, the attack on Trump, Harlow, and others who defy left- wing ideology is n’t just an attack on them. It is and has always been an attack on the people they represent and what they stand for.  ,
” In the end, they’re not coming after me,” Trump told a crowd at the Georgia Republican Party’s annual convention in 2023″. They’re coming after you, and I’m just standing in the way.”
Since then, he has repeated the sentiment many times. Love him or hate him, he’s right. We are not examining a steep slope. We are stumbling over it. An America without a hijacked court system is one in which no dissenting opinion is secure.
You have a responsibility to stand up to tyranny right away if you ever intend to disagree with the federal government’s status quo. They may be after Donald Trump today, but they will come after you eventually. Then it will be too late.  ,
