
NEW DELHI: Pakistan, Somalia, Denmark, Greece and Panama were Thursday elected as non- permanent members of the UN Security Council for a two- time word beginning 2025.
The UN General Assembly elected the five people by secret ballot for a two-year name beginning on January 1, 2025, through December 31, 2026.
Somalia received 179 seats, while Pakistan received 182 in the two tickets for African and Asia-Pacific.
Panama received 183 vote in the States of Latin America and the Caribbean, while Greece and Denmark received 184 and Greece received 182.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif posted on X for the” Happy Time” as it received a spectacular 182 vote and is elected to the UN Security Council for the term 2025-26.
He stated that Pakistan was eager to collaborate with the global community to address pressing international issues. ” We may continue to play our role in promoting peace, stability, and cooperation among regions”, he said.
Pakistan, who was elected for the eighth day as a non-permanent part, stated that it “looks forward to working closely with the other members of the UN Security Council and with the broader UN Account to uphold the UN Charter and pursuing the goals of preventing conflict and promoting peace, fostering global cooperation for international prosperity, and promoting general respect for human rights.”
Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s deputy prime minister and international minister, expressed his satisfaction with the UN Charter’s commitment to preventing war andamp; promoting peace, fostering global growth, and upholding common respect for human rights.
In a post on X, he wrote,” We remain identified to effectively contribute to the maintenance of international peace andamp; surveillance in accordance with UNSC’s mandate.”
