Florida, schmorida.
The foliage is off the lemon trees, new research suggests, after experiencing a pandemic-era increase where many a sick brit packed up and moved to the Sunshine State.
In 2024, obviously, it’s all about the Carolinas — their coastline, their mountains, their more moderate weather and — most notably — their affordable cost of living, claim the moving benefits at PODS, who’ve analyzed heaps of user data to identify the latest trends.
If that is accurate, it demonstrates a significant turnaround in a year. Florida ranked among the most moved-to places in 2023, with six moving-to places in the Major 20 and five in the Top 10.
According to the statistics, South Florida is the next most-flail state this year, trailing only Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area.
According to a report from online company Insurify, the data analysts blamed, among other things, a combination of predicted financial slowing and higher coverage rates, which are more than 19.8 % above the national average over the past two years, for the decline in Florida’s just bright warm market.
The average value of a Florida home increased by just 3.3 percent this year, which is below the national average of 4.1 percent, according to Zillow.
The picture is said to be brighter — , and breezier — , in the Myrtle Beach, S. C. /Wilmington, N. C. region, which PODS dubbed the most moved- to for 2024 — , just like it was in 2023.
Only this time, the Carolinas closed ranks and dominated the list, with Charlotte, Raleigh, Asheville and Greenville/Spartanburg, S. C. all making the Top 10.
No- income- tax Tennessee, with its” thriving job market” and “positive economic outlook” is also enjoying a significant uptick in popularity, the study showed, with Knoxville, Nashville and the Tri- Cities all making the Top 20 list.
All three metro areas have median median ages in the mid-thirties that are lower than the national average. According to the data, many movers are moving to the Volunteer State from Texas, Florida, and California.
Overall, cost of living remained at the top of the list of causes of people moving all — and the top five places that people were leaving were only one unexpected outlier: Austin, Texas, which was only recently touted as the next hot market.
Meanwhile, five regions in the Tri- State made this year’s most- moved- from hall of shame, including New York’s Hudson Valley, currently facing a significant cost- of- living crisis. The Big Apple proper did not show up on this year’s ranking.
