HAVANA: Four Soviet ships, including a radioactive- powered submarine, will appear in Havana following week, Caribbean officials said Thursday, citing “historically pleasant relations” between both nations and as tensions escalate over European military support for Ukraine in its war with Russia.
The boats will be in Havana between June 12 and June 17, according to a media release from Cuba’s foreign ministry, noting that none of them may be loaded with nuclear weapons and that their existence “does not represent a threat to the region.”
The news came a moment after U.S. leaders claimed Washington had been tracking Russian ships and aircraft that were scheduled to leave for the Caribbean for a military training. They claimed that the practice may be a part of a more comprehensive Russian reaction to the United States ‘ support for Ukraine.
The Soviet military reputation, according to the officials, was no alluring but significant. However, it is occurring as Russian President Vladimir Putin has suggested that Moscow might get “asymmetrical ways” elsewhere in the earth in response to President Joe Biden’s decision to permit Ukraine to use U.S.-provided weapons to attack Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest area, inside Russia.
Cuba’s Foreign Ministry said that the four Russian ships are the fleet” Gorshkov”, the nuclear- driven submarine” Kazan”, the ship fuel tanker” Pashin” and the rescue push” Nikolai Chiker”.
21 salutations will get fired from one of the ships as a welcome to the country upon arrival of the fleet at Havana, according to the foreign ministry. The device will be followed by an artillery battery from Cuba’s Revolutionary Armed Forces.
