On Tuesday, merely after Hunter Biden‘s child was found guilty of three firearm-related criminal counts in Delaware, President Joe Biden made a point about his administration’s attempts to establish gun restrictions.

Joe Biden opened his statement, held at an Everytown for Gun Safety event in Washington, D. C., by declaring that gun violence reduction has been a “passion” of his” for a long, long time” before recounting his personal relationship with individual tragedy — the death of his first wife and daughter.

Before being interrupted by a pro-Palestinian rebel claiming he was a part of the “genocide” in the Middle East, he declared,” Not give up on hope.”

The leader then continued by mentioning that he plans to enjoy the second anniversary of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, a 2022 weapons reform bill that addressed background investigations and red flag laws in two days.

” Folks, this ancient regulation is now saving lives, but there’s still so much more to perform to maximize the benefits”, Joe Biden continued before calling for the restoration of his ‘ 90s- era ban on “assault weapons” and higher- capacity magazines, lines that earned applause and chants of “four more years” from the crowd.

The president did not mention Hunter Biden’s conviction in his remarks, but he did mention it earlier in the day, saying he was still proud of his son and would “accept the outcome” of the trial. Prior to the release of the president’s statement, the White House and the White House had stated that if Hunter Biden was found guilty in either the gun case or a separate felony tax trial that was scheduled to start in California in September, he would not pardon him.

Hunter Biden, who was found to have lied about using cocaine in a form while purchasing a gun in 2018, faces nearly 30 years in prison for the offense and two others, but is expected to serve a shorter sentence as a first-time offender.

After his speech, Biden left Washington for an undisclosed trip to Delaware, where he will presumably spend time with his son and family. Prior to the meeting, he was scheduled to travel from the White House to Italy on Wednesday to attend a summit of the G7 leaders. Jill Biden, the first lady, was already present for Hunter Biden’s trial in Wilmington.

” We are not finished”, the president said in closing his speech. ” No single action can solve the entirety of the gun violence epidemic, but together, our efforts, your efforts, are saving lives. You can assist in bringing a nation together with a sense of urgency and purpose. You’re changing the culture”.

White House officials based the president’s remarks on Tuesday as a result of the White House Office of Gun Violence Protection’s efforts to engage the public and foster community engagement, which the president launched in the fall of 2023.
