
A , Kentucky , citizen has been convicted of providing assistance to a criminal organization, according to the , U. S. Department of Justice.
A judge convicted , Mirsad Hariz Adem Ramic, 34, of , Bowling Green, this week on costs of providing material aid to the , Islamic State , of Iraq and albert- Sham, known as , ISIS, plot to support the organization, and receiving defense training.
The , U. S.  , state classifies , ISIS , as a criminal organization and says it carries out problems around the world.
Ramic came to the , U. S.  , as a migrant from , Bosnia , when he was about 10 years old and has dual , U. S. Bosnian membership, according to national authorities.
He and two other men, who had been kids at , Eastern Kentucky University, reportedly left , Kentucky , in , June 2014, traveled to , Turkey , and next crossed into , Syria , and joined , ISIS.
Information demonstrates that Ramic received ISIS education.
The data showed that Ramic received military- form instruction at an , ISIS , camp and afterward took part in fighting for the group in , Syria.
For example, lawyers said in one action that in , July 2014, Ramic sent a text to one of the people who had gone to , Syria , with him describing how he had used an pro- aircraft weapons to shoot at airplanes.
According to national authorities, Ramic was also depicted in a photo that appeared on social media that showed him standing in front of a vehicle with an ISIS and ISIS on it.
According to a trial activity, Ramic and one of the people who traveled with him exchanged texts that indicated the second man was killed in 2015.
A 2016 legal issue from FBI
In 2016, an FBI agent allegedly pleaded guilty to him in a legal case, but the situation was never prosecuted because Ramic was incarcerated in Turkey.
He has been in prison since he was sent up to the , U. S.  , in , December 2021.
Ramic is to be sentenced in September. He faces up to 50 years in prison, according to the , Department of Justice.
