Kurt Campbell, India’s assistant secretary of state, endorsed India’s endeavors to bolster its tensions with China.
According to a Reuters report, Campbell praised the effort to ease tensions following S. Jaishankar’s speech on finding solutions to boundary issues with China, which have long caused tension between the two neighbors. After taking office for the second term, Jaishankar had stated on June 11 that “our concentrate with regard to China will be on finding a solution to the border problems.”
” Whenever two countries can get a certain amount of common place to reduce conflicts, I think we must support that,” Campbell said.
The deputy secretary even mentioned that the US is enthusiastic about and committed to growing its bilateral relationship with India.
Campbell and US national security adviser Jake Sullivan will be in India soon to improve cooperation between the two nations. He acknowledged the difficulty of resolving structural problems between China and India while also expressing confidence in the US-India relationship. ” I think there are some fundamental issues between China and India that will be challenging to resolve,” Campbell said.
Campbell emphasized the difficulties that Chinese President Xi Jinping faces with regard to regional issues when he discussed potential rapprochement with China. He said,” One of the things that we’ve seen under Xi Jinping on anything that bridges, or touches, territorial issues, I think it’s very hard for the Chinese to show any flexibility, or any desire to find common ground”.
The 3,800 m boundary between India and China has been a source of contention since a conflict in 1962. In July 2020, conflicts reached an end, leading to a military conflict as a result of conflicts that left casualties on both sides.
