At a showy charity in Los Angeles on Saturday with previous president Barack Obama and major Hollywood stars that raised$ 28 million, President Joe Biden slammed the US Supreme Court as “out of topic.”
Jimmy Kimmel, a late-night TV host, started off by playing a video clip in which he compared Biden’s report to that of his former adversary and current Republican opponent, Donald Trump. At a packed Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, where Hollywood stars George Clooney and Julia Roberts were among the attendees, he drew shouts from the crowd.
The Supreme Court has never been as out of alignment as it is today, according to Biden, a Democrat who has often denounced certain decisions but resisted a full-thumb assault on the court itself.
According to Biden,” there has never been a judge that is this far out of step.” He noted that traditional Justice Clarence Thomas had argued that the jury, which overturned the 50-year-old federal right to abortion, should evaluate matters like in vitro fertilization and contraceptives.
Three of the six liberals who are in charge of the nine-member jury were nominated by Trump. He and Biden are competing for the November 5 vote in a close election championship.
If Trump is elected once, Biden said, he “is possible to have two new Supreme Court nominees”.
The notion that if he wins the election, he will elect two more people who are flying colors in the face… I think it is one of the scariest pieces”, Biden said.
He was referring to a new discussion involving Justice Samuel Alito, who authorized colors emblazoned with the action to protest Trump’s 2020 defeat to Biden, including an upside-down American flag, to travel outside his houses in Virginia and New Jersey.
According to Democrat politicians, Alito if recuse himself from a situation involving Trump’s claim of political immunity from prosecution on federal legal expenses relating to his efforts to reverse the 2020 results based on the flag features.
Since Biden took office, the court’s conservative majority has also restricted affirmative action, gay rights, gun control and environmental regulation. It has blocked the president’s agenda on immigration, student loans, vaccine mandates and climate change.
Obama asserted that” the Supreme Court’s power is determined by elections. What we’re seeing now is a byproduct of 2016″ when Trump was elected. ” Hopefully we have learned our lesson. Because these elections matter”.
The “largest democratic fundraiser”
Despite Biden’s low approval ratings and concerns about the president’s 81-year-old age, the Biden campaign hoped the star-studded event would display strength and momentum.
” This will be one of the biggest fundraisers we’ve had”, said Ajay Jain Bhutoria, deputy finance chair at the Democratic National Committee. A Biden campaign spokeswoman said”$ 28 mln heading into President Biden’s LA fundraiser- and counting. The most extensive Democratic fundraiser ever took place.
The$ 26 million fundraiser in New York City, where Obama, Obama, and former president Bill Clinton were hosted by comedian and TV host Stephen Colbert, outperformed the Biden campaign. The top- ticket package for the LA event costs$ 500, 000, campaign officials said.
Jack Black, Jason Bateman, Kathryn Hahn, and Sheryl Lee Ralph were other notables who took to the stage at the Saturday event.
Robert De Niro attended a press conference in lower Manhattan at the Biden campaign’s behest, and Steven Spielberg has been assisting the Biden campaign with storytelling in recent weeks.
Queen Latifah, Lenny Kravitz, Lizzo, James Taylor, Christina Aguilera, and Barbra Streisand all performed at Michael Douglas ‘ fundraiser for the president, raising money for the artist.
After the former president stepped up his joint operation with the Republican National Committee and hosted high-dollar fundraisers in April, Biden’s fundraising in April lags behind Trump’s for the first time.
Democrats still had a larger war chest than Trump, and the Biden campaign still had a significantly larger one.
With less than five months until the election, Biden and Trump are tied in national polls, according to recent polls, while Trump has a clear advantage in the states where the outcome will be decided. Trump receives a higher overall rating from voters than Biden in terms of inflation-related issues.
Democrats have long relied on the liberal Los Angeles region as a reliable source of financial support. Republicans frequently criticize Democrats as being funded by Hollywood stars and California liberals.
However, the state’s supporters support presidential campaigns on both sides of the aisle. According to fundraising disclosures submitted to the Federal Election Commission, Biden and Trump have raised more money in the state than anywhere else.
Biden raised$ 24 million through April 30 in California, and Trump$ 11.7 million, according to the Federal Election Commission.
Due to industry strikes, the president was largely unable to hold expensive Hollywood fundraisers for the majority of 2023. However, since they have been resolved, Biden has hosted a number of fundraisers in the state, including one in December where the winning bid was close to$ 1 million.
