The New Zealand military force’s aircraft, which was taking Prime Minister Christopher Luxon to Japan on Sunday, collided in Wellington, forcing his company to confirm it on Monday.
Luxon will spend four weeks in Japan, where he will meet with Fumio Kishida, the country’s prime minister, and promote New Zealand businesses.
The business group and reporters were stranded in Port Moresby while Luxon flew business to Japan, according to New Zealand press reports.
The two 757s used by the New Zealand Defence Force are more than 30 years older, and they are becoming less reliable as a result.
New Zealand’s defense minister, Judith Collins, stated on Monday that the government was considering commercial flights for Luxon and his group and that the ongoing flight problems were “embarrassing.”
The New Zealand defense power struggles to keep up with outdated equipment and retain enough personnel. Given that the state is facing financial strains, the government has stated that it wants to spend more money on defense but is also trying to cut spending.
