An Israeli national reported to CNN less than a week after opposition chief Benny Gantz withdrew from the body that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had disbanded the nation’s war cabinet.
The security cabinet will continue to make decisions regarding the war, according to the official, adding that Netanyahu” may hold smaller forums on vulnerable issues”.
Netanyahu, Gantz, the former head of the IDF, Yoav Gallant, Ron Dermer, a close friend of Netanyahu, and former general Gadi Eisenkot were all “observers” in the battle case. It was able to make decisions regarding the fighting in Gaza freely from the larger Israeli government.
Whom particularly did Netanyahu intend to consult on matters relating to the Gaza War were uncertain.
Gantz resigned from the organization last year, citing Netanyahu’s failure to create a strategy for the Gaza war and the Strip’s potential administration.
However, Netanyahu has faced growing calling from the far- proper members of his alliance, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben- Gvir, to join the war cupboard, from which both were explicitly excluded at Gantz’s insistence.
Five weeks after the Hamas-led terrorist attacks on October 7, Gantz accepted to join an “emergency state” and the conflict cabinet was established.
Announcing his” complex and painful decision” to leave the war cabinet on June 9, Gantz said,” Netanyahu prevents us from moving forward to a real victory ]in Gaza ]”. Eisenkot even quit the combat cabinet.
He alleged that Netanyahu had put his own personal social preferences before a post-war strategy for the Gaza Strip, that “fateful corporate decisions are met with reluctance and boredom due to political considerations,” and that the prime minister should hold elections in the upcoming months.
” I call on Netanyahu: laid an agreed election day. Do not let our folks get torn off”, Gantz said.
Ben-Gvir pleaded for entry after Gantz left the government. By disbanding the government, Netanyahu avoids having to agree to or disagree with that demand.
Another view is that there was no longer any use in keeping the combat government in motion without Gantz and Eisenkot. Netanyahu did maintain smaller forums in the future to discuss sensitive issues involving the conflict with Hamas, according to an Israeli official who spoke to CNN. Ben- Gvir will not be ruled out of these either.
