China’s advertising system has responded to Taiwan President Lai Ching- te’s opening target, which was amicable to the island, with antagonism. China used Lai’s opening speech to disparage the new president, say that he does not have the authority of his own citizens, and harm to use force on the island as an alternative to accepting Lai’s avocado tree of détente based on mutual respect.
China Slanders Taiwan’s New President
China blasted the new Chinese president in response to Lai’s inaugural speech. A Global Times content asserted that Lai “wants to mislead Taiwan people”, and is “malicious”. According to another Global Times article, Chen Binhua, a representative for China’s State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said Lai has” an extremely arrogant attitude and more radical views” and that his inauguration speech was “f ] ull of hostility and provocation and made up of lies and deception. Also, Zhu Fenglian, another director for China’s State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, called Lai’s activities “vile”, according to a second Global Times article. A China Daily newspaper labelled him a “diehard separatist”, while another China Daily newspaper called Lai’s desire for Taiwan’s democracy an “evil achievement”.
China Claims Lai Does n’t Speak for the People of Taiwan
Despite Lai winning Taiwan’s political vote, China portrayed Lai as going against the will of his people. According to Global Times, Chen Binhua, a representative for the China’s State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, Lai is” a thief to conventional public opinion on the island and a industry of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.” According to Global Times, Lai’s colleagues in the DPP group are “in point very anxious and fear that colleagues on both sides of the Straits likely come closer up,” according to Zhu Fenglian, another director for China’s State Council Taiwan Affairs Office.
China Threatens to Employ Force on Taiwan
China also responded to Lai’s annual discourse by issuing challenges rather than merely veiled threats to employ force against Taiwan. According to a Global Times content,” Lai’s comment regarding Taiwan’s independence are playing with fire, and those who play with fire will undoubtedly burn themselves.” According to China Daily, the naval exercises conducted around Taiwan by China’s People’s Liberation Army ( PLA ) from May 23- 24 in response to Lai’s speech were “legitimate countermeasures” that send” a clear message that]the PLA ] will prevent’ Taiwan independence’ at all costs”. According to another article in China Daily, Dong Jun, the country’s defence secretary, “left no one in any uncertainty that Beijing would not dare to use force to quell any attempt to divide the country.” He declared unwaveringly that” Whoever dares sever Taiwan from China will be crushed.” Calling the separatists ‘ pursuit of “independence” an act of self-destruction.
According to another Global Times article,” [t]he actions of the Lai authorities will undoubtedly encourage lessons and measures from the mainland” and that” [i]f Lai tries to rise tensions in the upcoming times, the mainland will react and use all available tools to make the Taiwan authorities pay a hefty price.” According to a third Global Times article, “analysts” claimed that” the fight for Taiwan’s independence is a futile endeavor that will have disastrous and disastrous effects on Taiwan island.”
China has chosen to increase its propaganda attacks on the island rather than accept Lai’s reasonable offer to resume cordial relations based on mutual respect. Will Taiwan hold the line as China continues to beat the drums of war?
